Officer Hammond will be missed by all who knew him or had the opportunity to get to know him not only as a fine officer but as a friend but a truly great individual. He was a proud man who loved his family, friends and life itself. I wish we had more great men in the world like him and who would go out of there way to help anyone who needed it. He took pride in his job his family and he just had a zest for life!!!! Kelly was one who loved to joke with anyone around and had such great wit and sense of humor. Officer hammond will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Anita his sons Nicholas and Chase. I hope his family knew exactly how much they were in his every thought and how truly loved they were. My heart also go out to the rest of his family and friends. He can never be replaced nor would anyone try or even come close. This state has lost a great officer and Man.

I am still in shock. I have seen plenty of victims over the years, but it is never easy when you lose a family member or friend. We just talked the other day and now he is gone. I am sad. It troubles me when a good man is taken before his time. I have known Kelly since he joined LPD. I have always counted him as a friend. I will miss him. I don't accept the loss of him without anger. Sometimes I really wonder why one person dies and another lives. I know that if you do the right thing and do what you are supposed to it should count for something. It hurts me to think of Anita and the boys having to live without him. I know how much he enjoyed life. I hope that there are some good fishing holes up in heavien my brother. Say hello to my Mom and dad for me.

It takes a unique individual to have the ability to always make someone laugh and smile. Kelly had this unique gift of bringing laughter and energy into a room. Kelly I remember the 1st time I met you, I said to myself "What is wrong with this guy"? When I applied and tried out for the K9 unit I rember you looking at me and nodding as if to say "You did good, welcome to k9". As I got to know you I realized how good of a person you are, and that you would do anything for anybody who needed your help. You were the life of the party in our close knit unit, and we all loved you more than you know. I know this because I have seen the pain and sorrow in the faces of all your fellow k9 officers. I have cried more than I can remember since we lost you. You never know how much someone means to you until they are gone. Thank you for being KELLY, we would not have it any other way. Rest in peace brother, keep us all safe. I am depending on you being with me on all of my building searches/tracks/ and searches for felony suspects in the future.

Kelly's death has been a reoccuring nightmare for many weeks now. This has been harder to handle and to understand than any other. It has been comforting to hear how his life has made such an impact on others. He was a good person and friend. I will miss my conversations with him. He is missed dearly and was loved so much more than he every knew! The funeral arrangements where such a good tribute to him and my heart goes out to everyone involved. My prayers are with his family.
