West Broadway Cruising...Time To Stop The Madness

I'm thinking someone is a bit misinformed....

Metro Corrections WAS out there for Derby cruising. Just like we provided people for Thunder, the parade, and Oaks. We did exactly what you suggested: drove the vans, and picked up people. Plus, if memory serves, we even have a sally port detail that takes all the incoming prisoners in, and allows officers to get back to the streets. (We may not have done that this year, but we have in years past).

This was all volunteer OT, and there was a limited amount of it available. The main reason for that is something that both LMCD & LMPD share: understaffing. We're down a lot of people, and could only spare so many for details outside of the facility. But, I know a number of people who worked one or more of these events....

On topic again -

Let's see....Central was shut down. Cruising on Preston was brought to a halt. Nope, can't get rid of Broadway, though. And, we have to rearrange officer's schedules/shifts/lives to provide details to this "event". Ummm....yeah, OK. This crap should end, plain and simple. If the youth of the west end are "bored", well, they can start working (and no, selling dope isn't, technically speaking, a job) or providing some type of service for their community, instead of perpetuating the violence and wasting their lives trying to emulate some thug rap star.

I see in the CJ this morning that the Black councelmen/women want

to continue the debacle. Will somebody explain to me what Derby

activities the whites have that the blacks are barred from. I know of none.

We have always gone to a party, had a party or stayed at home. We never felt the need to terrorize the community with our obnoxious behavior.
