Given the Chief's policy of only punishing the rank and file officers, I seriously doubt that anything is going to happen to Mr. Stewart over this.

Well lets see. Late last year there was a member of Congress (from Indiana) who did the same thing and was charged. Lets see if the chiefs hand picked friend also get charged.

If he had a gun on him, he must have a badge on him also. If this was an officer who actually works hard he would be on admin leave and a full investigation by the public integrity unit would be ongoing. The chief would also be saying if he violated the law he should be charged. Funny, I didn't hear any of this about stewart.

But then again he is bob's friend. Someone who was hand picked for a year job (that a Major could't do) for almost $100,00.00 plus benifits. Someone who while working for LMPD has still continued to stay on contract with 2 or 3 other departments as a consultant (I wonder if he filled out a "secondary employment request" form. He has done nothing that someone from either the old JCPD or LPD could have done and saved the taxpayers all the money.

Just another example of what is good for the chief and his friends and screw everyone else.

"Stewart said he took the gun to work earlier that day to practice at the police firing range."

OK, seriously, I'm just asking. Please do not mistake my comments as angry rhetoric. What was Stewart practicing for? Does he hold a badge somewhere, and if so, did that department supply the ammunition that he used, or compensate the department for the use of its facility for training purposes? Did Stewart pay for his own ammunition? Is Stewart a firearms instructor? Seriously, I only wish to be informed.

Let's do give him the benefit of the doubt, knowing that no LEO or LE Official would purposefully try to "sneak" a gun onto an airplane. I do believe that it was an accident.

Here are the questions ....

March 2nd, 2005 @ 9:34AM (19 years ago)

1. Stewart is a CONSULTANT ON CONTRACT - resident in Florida - holding a CCDW from Florida. Florida does give reciprocity, but ... no other civilian can carry a weapon concealed inside a police building - BY KENTUCKY STATUTE! So, he violated the law by his own admission, by carrying within the training officer and the range. (Florida has not yet implemented HR 218, so he can't be carrying on his retired badge from DC - and even then, it would be questionable if he could carry concealed within the building.)

2. Are any OTHER civilian employees allowed to carry concealed within LMPD buildings? Have any been disciplined for doing so? Are other civilian employees allowed to "practice" at the range? If not, why not?

3. How many days a week does Bob work - what exactly does his contract say? Are there any performance measures built into the contract or is it just a gimme?

4. I've heard suggestions that LMPD is paying for his lodging expenses and his travel from Florida - can anyone confirm that? (Where IS he living while he's here - I don't want the address posted, but ... is he living in an apartment, in one of those furnished suites, or what?) Does he drive a city car - and if so, given that the Chief took the cars away from everyone else, what gives with that? What about cell phone, etc.?

5. What exactly HAS he done while "director of training" - and who awards that title? He's not an employee - he calls himself a consultant - so is that just a courtesy title? How is he listed with HR? Does he draw any benefits?

6. Has anyone seen the actual contract? Maybe someone can make an Open Records request for it and post it?

The chief's spokesman said it was a regretful oversight...well, there must be some punishent! An 'oversight' involving a firearm (concealed) in the airport is no mere oversight. I travel often and I can tell you before I leave the house exactly what is in my baggage.

This was the same butt hole that sent a message saying officers need to be more responsible.

His punishment should be severe. This incident brought discredit to the department on a federal level and should be delt with accordingly. Furthermore, I would say his statement of 'training purposes' should be investigated. There is probably a truthfulness issue at hand. He owes the police department an apology--and the chief should hand down the same heavy punishment he's been known for.

I wonder if anyone from the firearms training academy would care to comment on this. Did Sponge Bob actually shoot the morning of this incident or is this all a fabrication? Doesn't Chief Robert White have a habbit of firing people for being untruthful???

Sponge Bob as the civillian director of training doesn't teach a single class and is only here 3 days a week. He was hired and given a title by his buddy RCW, he is not a sworn peace officer.

The first thing he did when he got the job was make a reccomendation to quit training our recruit officers in Louisville thereby cutting his job in half. Then he jumped on the selling of the Southfield's Academy property on Flat Rock Road because Jerry Abramson wanted to do it. The Recruit academy, computer lab physical fitness course, one of our ranges(that many agencies use), the EOD training sight and the state of the art driving track will all be a gone, because Jerry has a buddy that wants to buy the property.

That's right, no driver's training anymore because Jerry Abranson is selling the property. What a joke! He is such a crook. He is buying property all around the county for his ring park.. How much do you want to bet he is buying land through a third party and then selling it to the metro government.

Let's see we don't have money for raises, we don't have money for equipment, he is trying to cut the firefighters yet we'll have lots of parks. God he sucks-litera;;y!

If he's got a badge, who did he get it from? Is there a written oath of office on file for him somewhere? Was he ever sworn in? If not then he's impersonating an officer and whoever gave him the badge can be charged and fired too. All it takes is someone willing to do the paperwork and go to court.

CALL your council person and ask about this!! We as taxpayers are paying this bozo's 6 figure salary!! Let's demand some answers from our representitives AND our FOP!!!

The Mayor who thinks he's GOD will try everything in his power to wash this under the bridge. Just remember when a FOOL runs the class you will have a class of FOOLS. Now you know why the police dept is picked on so much.

You guys are missing the whole point here....Sponge Bob did this on purpose as an object lesson...and I thought I was the only one who went to the range...shot...cleaned my weapon...and then, packed it in some luggage under personal items. Who, other than the Airport people, would think to look for it there. No need for gun safes, holsters, or even an office drawer to store your weapon. Brilliant!! Run the lie Feds, run the lie (I'm sure his interview was hilarious-uuuhhh, yeah deodorant, undies, Gun, toothbrush, uuuhhh, did I tell you I was a Police Training consultant? What about 9/11? Oh I see now, only reason y'all got me is 'cause I'm black...Louis!! Mattie!! HELP!!)

As a LPD officer of 22 years, my last assignment was in training, a certifed law enforcement trainer for the State of Kentucky. I retired to Florida and became a certified LE trainer in Florida while teaching in a Criminal Justice Academy. In a normal state of mind there is no excuse for any LEO or retired LEO to forget where a deadly weapon is placed. After being at the firing range, as he stated, he placed a weapon in luggage under personal items. He then sometime later, no time line here, entered an airport to board a flight makes him incompetent at best. If Mr. Stewart is the head of training or in any position within LMPD he should be terminated from that position.

Is this man a certified LE trainer in Kentucky? Unless the statue in Kentucky has changed, those that teach LEO must be certified. If he has lived in Florida as a consultant is he a certiifed LE trainer? If he teaches

LEO here in Florida he must be certified as well. These questions need to be answered. (Would there be any news media interested in finding out and reporting to the citizens of Louisville). Would contacting the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, FDLE, produce any interesting information? After all he attempted to enter a secure area with a deadly weapon, a trainer of LEO's should know the basic meaning of secured area. What state of mind was this man in and why did he attempt to conceal a deadly weapon while boarding a flight? Interesting questions.

If the citizens of Louisville deserve a first class police department (as they surely do), and as the chief and mayor continue to say they want, how can an individual like this be chosen to be the head of training for LMPD; A PERSON WHO FORGETS WHERE HE HAS PLACED A DEADLY WEAPON. I am not surprised after all Mr. White continues to be chief after the information that has been revealed about him and what he continues to do to a fine community's police department under the leadership of the mayor.

It is time for the citizens of Louisville to really examine what , where and how these men are leading this department. After all, the main responsibility of any government is to provide protection for its citizens. The mayor is the executive that is held to that resposibility. Has he provided the best to lead the MLPD? You must answer that if you live there.

At the very least, Mr. Stewart violated federal law and a Metro Government Ordanance that requires firearms not being under direct control to be unloaded and locked in a safe place. Mr. Steward, who is a civilian employee of the police department, violated both local and federal laws. We have officers being punished becaused they parked on a meter downtown. If Chief White is an honorable man, a man of his word, he will deal firmly with this illegal activity. Unfortunately, Chief White has not held his staff to the same level of accountability that he holds his officers and sergeants. Recently, in a mandatory meeting with all sergeants, Chief White demanded, and rightly so, that sergeants hod their officers accountable for their actions. We can only hope that Chief White will lead by example and hold his Training Director accountable for his criminal actions.

and that applies how?

The main thing is he, Stewart, attempted to take the gun on an airplain. If you are saying it is not against local ordinance that is fine. I do believe that there is something in the police policy about control of your firearm. Besides that he is not a sworn officer here, he should not be at the range "practicing" as when officers want to practice they are told the range is booked. Someone else asked if he was practicing did he bring his own ammo or did he reimburse the dept for what he shot up? I think he is bulls**ting everyone and the feds on this. I hope he and bob white (if he doesn't do what is right with this) get burnt big time.

Maybe you are looking at it wrong. You think the training is super secret or too long? One of the biggest issues with Law enforcement today is training. many of the lawsuits that departments are hit with are related to training issues.

As a Police officer and a citizen of this community I feel that the more training our people have the better. I can't understand why anyone would feel any differently. The LMPD accademy not only covers the curriculum that Richmond does, but many other things that they do not and should.

Having the training all in one location also gives our people flexibility in case somehing unexpected should arise.

Obviously, I don't have any knowledge of the Greensboro incident regarding the chief's son. In fact, I donâ??t even know Chief Whiteâ??s son.

However, I am thoroughly familiar with your listed DC drug test allegation. It is all a matter of public record as a result of an extensive (and expensive) investigation. The commission that investigated the allegation completely exonerated White of any wrongdoing. The report is available to public (if you want to read it).

Final comment.

I was told by an Airport Cop that because TSA took the gun OUT of his bag, they could not do anything. Can anyone shed some light on this?? Just because a TSA person took the gun out of his bag before the police could actually see it inside he can't be charged?
