Some ideas to think about, not really sure how difficult it would be to implement but to me its feasible.

Urban Division has 7 repeatered UHFchannels and a few simplex channels. Repeater all the urban frequencies and use for dispatch (preferably around 10 channels, or which 6 or so would be for district, 2 for service and remaining for detectives, wreckers or the like. Suburban Division has 4 repeated VHF channels. Make them simplex channels for specials units with encryption such as on command channel. Use the repeater sites for these channels (waverly, mitchell hill and bluecross) for the remaining UHF channels that I mentioned above. There is UHF equipment at these site, since that is what EMS uses county wide. Give the officers that would use the VHF channels dual-band radios which work on both UHF and VHF.

I am sure there are issues with this idea that I am not aware of, but it would be a start and probably less expensive since it would utilize existing equipment as much as possible until metro safe is 10-8.

Any news on the details of what this temporary system will entail? Any news on how long the temporary system will take to implement? Just curious...

"Thank goodness a fix may be just around the corner."

The problem is, just how long is just around the corner??

Just another knee-jerk reaction from the city. We don't need it till something bad happens.

Its not like the police should be actually doing any policework to begin with. Just take your reports and hang out at the office kissing ********** all day and you will go much further in your careers. If that's not your bag, you could always spend your shift at various gas stations stealing their food and cappuchino while hitting on the fat chick at the counter (aka community-oriented policing).

7 Mil for a temporary fix? GEEEEZZZZZZ.... That's crazy. Didn't the building only cost $5 mill? Like someone else said, It probably won't go online for 5 years, MetroSafe will probably be outfitted by that time!

Is this one of those things, where you put it on your shoulder, turn the volume up till your nose bleeds??

How much do you want to bet that if and when they ever get it working that it won't work at all?

I would like to read some comments on how the merger has improved the Louisville area. (if in fact it has?) It seems to me the radios would have been implemented before the merger to ensure the safety of our officers! Does anyone agree?
