God bless you officers involved. You did what you had to do and survived the day , saving innocent civilians from the evil these subjects were going to do. Our community owes you thanks. I rest easy knowing that when my family is not with me that there are hero's like you to protect them from the predators of society.

Thank you.

Once again the news featured the wrong people. Grieving family members asking why the officers didn't use tasers. Well, all I can say is what was this pillar of the community doing with drugs, wanted on warrants and armed with a machine pistol and trying to murder two police officers?

I agree with the sentiments of the above person. God Bles our police officers. You were put into a situation and protected our community and yourselves valiantly. I hope and pray that both the officers come through this o'k.

I hope and pray that the other officers stay safe also.

I hope the criminals will one day learn that if you attack an officer with deadly force you will be met with the same force in kind.

Now that our fine officers have been armed with yet another non/less than lethal tool (taser) it seems that the local media is going to contribute to the everwidening problems by stupidly asking if a taser should have been used. I guess a taser is not needed when the perpetrator shoots himself in the head. God bless you officers for going home safely to your families another day.

The media will put whatever spin on a story that will ensnare viewers or sell papers, regardless of the idiocy contained therein. This is simply another classic example. The suggestion that tasers should have been used in this situation is pure lunacy. God bless all of our police officers for putting their lives on the line each and every single day so that we can live our lives in some degree of safety (no thanks to the mayor or chief). For anyone who suggests that tasers would have been a better alternative to deadly force in this situation, I'd invite you to stare down the barrel of an Ingram Mac-11 spewing 100 9mm rounds per minute, while you are armed only with a Taser, then tell me what you think.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MEDIA DO SOME STORIES ON THE OFFICERS IN YESTERDAY'S FIRE FIGHT OR OTHER OFFICERS WHO HAVE IN THE PAST BEEN IN FIRE-FIGHTS AND GET THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY. IT IS NOT FUN OR PLEASANT TO HAVE YOUR LIFE THREATENED AND IT IS EQUALLY NOT FUN TO HAVE TO USE DEADLY FORCE ON SOMEONE. OFFICERS IN LIFE AND DEATH CONFRONTATIONS CARRY THESE BATTLE SCARS TO THEIR GRAVES. THESE SITUATIONS CAN BE AVOIDED IF THE "CITIZEN" CRIMINAL OPTS TO SURRENDER TO AUTHORITY AND SUBMIT TO ARREST. THERE IS A CLEAR CHOICE HERE. THE ONUS IS ON THE PERSON WHO CHOOSES TO ASSAULT AN OFFICER. HE OR SHE MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR PUTTING HIMSELF OR HERSELF IN AN ADVERSARIAL POSITION AND THUS ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS OR HER ACTIONS. LIFE IS FULL OF CHOICES BUT EACH CHOICE HAS A CONSEQUENCE. THANKS TO THE ACTIONS OF THE OFFICERS YESTERDAY, MANY INNOCENT, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS IN THE AREA OF THE SHOOT-OUT WERE PROTECTED FROM HARM AND CONTINUED ON THEIR WAY SAFELY.

I did not know this morning how to go about thanking every officer, friend, and family member that has offered their support and friendship to my husband through all of this. The calls, the well wishes, and the visits to my door were so much appreciated while I waited. I spread all of the business cards and messages out last night on the counter and reminded myself, this is it, this is why he loves his brothers so much. Thanks to the positive and uplifting comments from the community as well. Your support is vital. So, trying to push my emotions to the side... my family thanks you all. My husband (and his partner) came home last night. Seeing him at the front door was one of the greatest joys of my life.

Being an officer for over 15 years in 2 departments the facts and reality of this is simple.

If you don't want the police to shoot at you DON'T shoot at them. DON'T go at them with a knife or an ax. DON'T try to run them over with your car, van or truck.

To the rev coleman stay try to look at the facts before you shoot off your mouth. I am sure you would let someone shoot at you with a machine gun and not shoot back. OH I forgot as a convicted felon you should not have a gun in the first place.

To the media, stop asking stupid questions about which tool we use. In this case of deadly force, it could only be met with deadly force. I am sure if someone in Bob Evans was injured by these thugs the question would have been why didn't the police do more to protect everyone.

We were fortunate in this situation because the citizens had 2 Officers respond on these suspicious persons, who work well together. I've known these 2 guys since the academy and it was immediately apparent that they had each others interests in mind. They have been able to work together in some capacity as partners in different units. I knew that Todd and George worked well together from years of seeing them work in the former 3rd dist. And I am thankful that the powers that be allowed this partnership to continue because today we still have 2 fine men as part of our community and 2 fine Officers as members of this department.

I sit down next to these officers every rollcall. I just thank God I will continue to sit down with them . No one on this dept wants to see anyone lose their life but if you pull a gun on an officer he probably will not pull mace or a Taser to deal with you. These officers were hired to do a job called PROTECT AND TO SERVE and they did just that. If the media or that idiot from the Justice Resource Center can't keep his mouth shut till he get's all the facts, then stay away. I have talked to both these officers since the shooting and yes it has taken a toll on them as it would any brother in uniform. All I will say to the public is don't judge until you walk a mile in their shoes. everyday in this CITY. We are constantly drug into the gutter by the media in this city who can't get the facts straight or just plain doesn't want to report them. Look at the background of these gun toteing THUGS you make out to be victims in all your reporting. For once why don't you tell it like it is and leave the police to do their job the way they are trained too.

You know, it's funny that the news media sends a crew to to Flint, Michigan, to investigate deception and dishonesty on the part of Michael Moore in the movie Fahrenheit 9/11, when they could just stay at home and investigate each others' deception and dishonesty. Maybe they're just jealous that old Mikey got one up on them...

Because when some idiot like this dillweed fires a gun at police, we will fire back to defend our lives. How are we supposed to determine in a split second where these shots are being aimed while this idiot is in a car. It doesn't matter, if anyone pulls a gun, fires a gun at the police, they will be dealt with accordingly.

No,your comment is inacurate. I was there on the scene. The coroner's statement indeed does say the shot that killed Rucker came form inside the car (near contact wound) The facts are that Rucker pullled the weapon while the officers were conducting their investigation, charged the weapon and fired at them. One of the rounds struck a car within inches of Officer Hale. Don't comment about thing you know nothing about. If you have ever been in a firefight then you know it doesn't matter how many rounds are fired, it is how you react and who goes home at the end of the night.

I am glad that the dirtbag finished himself off, these leaves the Officers clear of mind and conscience. Their faith will not be strained and they won't have to go through the armchair quarterbacking and second guessing that comes from everyone that wasn't there and doesn't have a clue to do what it takes to survive.

How does anyone know that this piece of trash was trying to kill himself. Maybe he was just too stupid and scared and did himself in accidentally. We may never know, but at least there is one less waste of oxygen walking this earth.

Anybody with half a brain knows you dont use a taser when the weapon you are facing is an extremely dangerous high powered weapon. Tasers are not 100% effective and for an officer to use one and it happen to not work, you would be looking a two dead officers. Thats an instant where you simply cant take a chance that the taser may fail. Tasers are a good alternative in instances where the officers life isnt in immediate danger and where if it failed, the officers would have time to use another method of defense. If the man was 100 ft away with a ball bat, that would have been an instance where a taser would be a good alternative to try. Not a man armed with a assault rifle.
