Why is it that statements of such validity have yet to be picked up by the media?? Maybe its because either they are not true "news reporters" or is it they are being very well compensated by this administration to report only positive aspects of this Mayors accomplishments. These statements would and should be distributed to the public along with the Chiefs record at his previous employers to show the public... You can only blow so much smoke before it chokes out the non smokers.

The ONLY thing I can honestly say is that this administration has done well, is to pull the wool over the citizens of this citys' eyes!! Beauty only runs skin deep Mr. Mayor, its what lies beneath that really makes a difference.

FOP this is probably the best statement you have made so far!!!

Well done, getting statements like these out to the public will only aid in your plight against this dictatorship!

GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU WHO PROTECT ME AND MY FAMILY!!!!

Most of your violent street crimes/homicides revolve around the drug trade. During those years the police were still primarily battling the same drugs they had been since the 60's such as: marijuana, prescription pill abuse, cocaine, heroin,, etc. The highly addictive drug crack cocaine was coming onto the scene at this time and had not yet sunk it's teeth into the community yet. Nor were there the highly addictive drugs such as methamphetamine, GHB, exstacy (however it's spelled) and a plethora of new prescription drugs (Oxycontin comes to mind) Several of these design drugs can be made out of items bought from Walmart and created right in your own home. And now the police are seeing a reemergence of oldies such as heroin and LSD right here in Louisville.

Even with Jerry tinkering with the police and failing to support them as we know he was doing even back then, the police were fighting the same battle they had been for years. It was old hat for the cops and they were able to keep things under control. As the new drugs emerged with new criminal cultures using/trafficking in them the cops needed to change as well. They must try new things, police aggresively to remove these plagues, and use bold , daring tactics. If you have leadership that is stuck in the 80's and still not backing the police the crime is going to spiral out of control as the cops cannot keep up with it.. Basically the cops were able to squeak by & maintain despite Jerry's pathetic leadership. The entire illegal drug scene has changed and the police have not been allowed to keep pace with it because of restrictive leadership. That is the bottom line. The drugs are not going away and the crime will continue as long as we have weak leadership. I do not care what color they are or what politcal party they align themselves with. They need to be leaders first and back their troops. I can tell by your liberal agenda that you wil probably be offended by my calling the police "troops" . The fact is they are a paramilitary organization. They wear uniforms, carry weapons, and utilize a chain of command. They are as only as good as their leaders!

The FOP is on target with this article. The mayor will never ask an independent group to conduct a survey because of the truth he would be told. I think it would be money well spent for the FOP to have an independent group to do this. The news director's in this town are weak!!! I know several reporters that want to investigate a story like this but were not allowed to do so.

The money to do the survey would come out of the officer's own paychecks, so don't complain about siezed drug money not going to the police department when you are in fact 'offering' take money from the department for some survey that wouldn't do s!#$. A survey will not change the mayor's decisions if he 'already' knows the answers he would recieve. So where is the logic 'FOP'???????

Starting yesterday, Lodge 614 should launch a massive campaign to support and endorse either Anne Northup or Kelly Downard for Mayor of Louisville. I don't think our city can take four more years of deceptive politics.

Survey!!!!!! Comparing 95 to present, Lets see some results instead of gramatically correct surveys. Lets see the FOP make some noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This material protects your careers, MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!!!!!!

I hope one of the news services does pick this up. Maybe people will start realizing the RCW isn't really the problem, but Jerry is. I'm sure the Chief has some issues he needs to address, but the big problem is Jerry meddling with something he knows nothing about. He has no idea what it takes to make the streets safe. He should stick to what he knows and that is being the publicity spokesman for the City. Let him do that and let the Police Chief run the Police Department.

Criminals need to be arrested and the Officers need the support of the front office.

Looks like similar situation to what we have here...except that the New Haven Mayor and Chief seem to have listened to their Officers and are trying to work out a solution...what a concept!!

Police Union Votes No Confidence in Connecticut Chief

Associated Press

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Rank and file members of the New Haven police union have voted no confidence in Police Chief Francisco Ortiz Jr.

"It sends a devastating message to City Hall, the mayor and the chief," Sgt. Louis Cavalier, president of the police union, Local 530, said Thursday. "There's a serious issue here and something has to be done, dramatically, to get this department back on track."

In the vote Thursday, 221 police officers, about 86 percent, voted that they had no confidence in Ortiz while 37 supported the chief.

The chief said he was expecting the results.

"I'm looking forward to working with the union and the membership and listen to their concerns and see what we can do to move forward," Ortiz said.

Mayor John DeStefano Jr. said he was "saddened" by the situation, but he said he was confident the chief and union could address concerns and reach a "constructive resolution."

Officers have complained about what they say is Ortiz's overbearing managerial style.

The officers were also critical last year after a fatal police shooting, the eighth police-involved shooting of the year. Many officers thought Ortiz bowed to outside pressures and failed to support the officers.

Maybe the FOP should consider a mail campaign with these figures to the public, or perhaps handing these out in different areas. A billboard or TV ad? We desperately need to get this information out. The media will not help us and this site, while outstanding, is too small to have a major impact on the city.
