Perhaps it is because in the broader view this problem is more indicative of issues going on around this department that just the minor problems of the SWAT team. It speaks more to a mindset that anything else.
This problem goes to the street credibility of the command staff and of the SWAT unit. And if you think SWAT isn't perceived by the rest of the dept as a good ole boy system, you are deluding yourself. This will only add to those problems.
Now another and bigger issue is that this seems to be more of the divide and conquer strategy pitting officers against their own.

I was asked if I wanted to take on the responsibility of leading the team and I said yes.

Earned? Yeah, I know that everyone on this department as at least "earned" the right to express their opinons on decissions relating to "OUR" department.
