An Unsafe And Hostile Working Environment

November 17th, 2004 @ 1:55AM (19 years ago)

The working conditions are so bad, yet the Chief continues to proclaim how his decentralization policy is working. What's more he is backed by the mayor who along with the Chief submitted a budget for the police department for less money this year than we worked off of last year.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that these two are the prime cause of violent crimes and murders on the rise in Louisville while they are declining in other parts of the country.

Robert White hung his hat on decentralization and sold his CROCK OF CRAP plan to the mayor because the mayor thought he could save money and get away with it.

The Chief's grand plan eliminated the units that worked well in countering the street violence and drugs, created busy work positions and now there is so few Officers patrolling larger beats that is is unsafe for officers to do any proactive policing. What was his response to this? He said officers will be mandated to talk to residents! Well all of the residents I have talked to want a police department that locks up criminals RCW! They want to live in safe neighborhoods where the thugs are afraid to show their faces not the good citizens. They understand where our so called chief and mayor do not that pro-active, aggressive policing stops crime not committees and surveys from out of town "experts" on how to solve local problems.

Officers cannot get out on a group of thugs alone when their back-up is 15 to 20 minutes away(sometimes longer)

We need the tools and support to go out and consitently be able to chase the thugs & drug dealers off the corners and lock them up. We need CENTRLIZATION of units like Street Crimes and Metro Narcotics in order to have a unified, not fractured approach to dealing with the root of the problems that are plauging our city.

60 MURDERS MR. MAYOR! 60 MURDERS CHIEF WHITE! All because you all screwed up and tried to pretend that you knew what is best.

MAYOR ABRAMSON AND CHIEF WHITE. WHY DON'T YOU QUIT PRETENDING THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM? WHY DON'T YOU RIDE IN THE WEST END WITH A BEAT COP ON A FRIDAY NIGHT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF WHAT IS GOING ON?

If there isn't a problem like your spokesweannies say then why are people dying? Why are Officers leaving faster than you can fill the vacancies? Why is crime on the rise? Why can't you see what everyone else does?

Admit you made a mistake and move forward. Everyone makes mistakes, it is what you do to rectify your mistakes that proves that you are worthy of your position.

Louisville will continue to suffer as long as you keep pretending there isn't a problem. It take long term and consistant, aggressive policing of high crime areas in order to keep ahead of the criminals.

I recall that in 1997 the murder rate was going through the roof. Jerry Abramson was the mayor, he refused to admit there was a problem and people kept dying. The mayor refused to hire officers to fill vacancies and took the money he saved by it and funded his pet projects.

PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE TO DIE AS LONG AS THIS TYPE OF POLICY IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE!

SHAME ON YOU JERRY ABRAMSON AND SHAME ON YOU ROBERT WHITE. THE BLOOD OF INNOCENTS IS ON YOUR HANDS.

I was around the last time a vote of no-confidence was done. It seems that the Mayor had the Southern Police Institute do a survey on the Chief every year and the results were always the same. They always said everybody loves the Chief and everything is just fine and dandy. Well the Officers didn't agree and the FOP did a survey that showed 78% of the working men and women didn't think the chief was doing a good job.

The survey's paid for by the taxpayers by the mayor stopped when his lies were exposed in the Board of Aldemen's chambers.

The citizen's saw first hand that the lies and whitewashing by the mayor's office of a long series of problems could no longer be tolerated. Citizens saw first hand what was really going on.

It is kind of funny that the subject of that survey (Doug Hamilton) was not selected to run the Police Department when a new mayor took office. If he was doing such a good job like Jerry's survey showed then you think the citizens of Louisville, and the Board of Aldermen would have mandated this! It is a funny coincidence that now Mayor Abramson is back he chose his cronie Doug to head the Metro Safe Program, which is what he is calling the new combined radio system for Police, Fire and EMS that still TWO YEARS AFTER MERGER is not in place and still TWO YEARS AWAY!

The incompetance just keeps on rolling and the problems just keep on building and the people keep on dying. I wonder if the murders were happening in the East End of the county if the Mayor would find the money for the radio system?? Apparently the West End residents lives aren't worth it to him.

I have been critical of FOP President Dotson myself. I was at the press conference after the FOP meeting, and I was extremely satisfied with what Mr. Dotson had to say. I hope he keeps it up and continues to pound this administration. I do think if there is any truth to what Chief White says, that the FOP president has not been to his office since february to air the complaints of the FOP. That needs to be corrected, Mr. President. You have to keep constant contact with the Chief. If what The Chief says is true, Please do better for the members of the FOP. I give you a big "GREAT" job on the press conference

Along with that, I would like the media to do an open records request on the chiefs driving record in regards to his accidents. Like the time he changed lanes and forced another care to strike a stationary object and his past one that has put his car in sam swope body shop. Lets see a story how he is beyond his own policy on driving and punishment.

The media should also do an open records request to find out why the Chief and his staff do not attend the MANDATED training sessions, the 40 hours of in-service training that every police officer in the state is required to go through every year and why their records were FORGED to show that they completed the training.

I would be interested in seeing if they even qualified with their service weapons this year. Amazing how these things that eveyone else is required to do and they feel like they are above all that.

Radio question

November 17th, 2004 @ 7:58PM (19 years ago)

I have a question I hope someone can answer - who's on first?

In other words, how is the existing staffed radio spectrum split up? Who's on which channels? How has the traffic on the "patrol" channels increased? I understand that it has, but I'm unclear on exactly why it has increased - which channels have been abandoned, etc. You can answer by specific frequency or by "city channel 1," etc., as I know the frequencies for each channel. What sort of temporary upgrades/changes actually might help - given that the entire mess will be moved to an entirely different part of the radio spectrum in a year or so?

Funny how the chief's responce is that he has an open door policy. He will let you speak your mind and get what you need off your chest but for get a good solution from him.

In regards to the radio system, I asked him during an FTO resert why start re-districting before a new radio system. His response was that this was his plan that he felt was more important than an immediate solution of the radio. When I asked him again and stated the radio system was more important, he stated he was doing it this way and that he was putting the cart before the horse. He also stated that he was going to put two radios in cars and that I could have his since he dosen't listen to his anyway. At least we know that if there was a robbery happening directly in the path that he was going in, he wouldn't have a clue about it, do anything anyway, and maybe dosen't remember how to be an officer (he just likes to were the uniform).

If there's proof that the Chief or his staff are forging state records, then you should provide it to the Kentucky Attorney General and DOCJT.

For those of you who don't remember the Hamilton administration, we did the very same thing. The Mayor (yeah, the same one we have now) didn't give a crap back then and he most certainly doesn't give one now. The current appointee of the Chief's office gets paid no matter what we think and certainly doesn't care what we think - look around the department and you'll see that's obvious. This current endeavour, however endearing, is an exercise in futility. Focus our attention on the Chief and it will most certainly make us out to be whiners with a grudge. If we focus on the issues such as equipment and manpower, for example, and continue to emphasize our efforts to protect the public as best we can than public support will be easier to obtain.

ps- don't get too concerned though, the big raise we got this year will make it all easier to tolerate anything they throw at us. ;-)

Stay safe and take care of each other.

Oh, (done w/o the FOP backing) If you guys really want a change, put the heat publicly on White, get the metro council to demand the resignation of White..oh, hey fellows when you see a FOP tag on a plate, try showing some RESPEST,instead of getting on the muscle, and locking up us retirees..Remember...what goes around, comes around.. You'll retire one day,and have to endure a NAG, 24/7..and you'll know why we "DRINK".. SO CUT US SOME SLACK...GIVE EM HELLLLL-BOYS....

WLKY, WAVE, WHAS and FOX...

You all are reading this right?? I know you listen to police radios so you can be first to get the latest crime story. I hear them when you call wanting mug shots and criminal histories. Now's the time to get the biggest story of all:

Let the people of Louisville know what their so called mayor and chief of police are doing. Do some digging... there is plenty of dirt to go around.
