McKenzie Mattingly Found Not Guilty

McKenzie, Congrats and GOD bless you and your family. Words cannot say how relieved we are that the truth was brought out and the jury had enough self respect to understand it and not to bow down to political pressur.

We hope to see you back in blue soon.

Its good to have this put behind brother Mattingly, but the shame is that he was not supported by the top of the department when he needed it the most. He should be reinstated with all backpay, etc. It was comforting to see that this jury didn't let politics dicate the outcome

Last night I was proud to patrol my beat again. I found that the vocal minority that do not represent this community were defeated. I felt that justice, long overdue was served. Like may of us, we saw one of our own indicted and tried on something that we have all been so very close to. We saw a spineless administration, Chief Robert White, try and convict McKenzie in his own mind and fire him. I heard on the news Chief White say' "While I may not personally agree with the jury's decision, we have to respect their decision." SEE he made up his mind and fired McKenzie based not on the facts but on his arrogant attitude.

Last night I had people stopping me and telling me how relieved they were that that poor young policeman was found innocent. Do these people march in protest? No they are the good honest people that go to work everyday and raise their kids to be honest, hard working, productive citizens, not dope dealing robbers.

This case never should have gone to trial. McKenzie should have been afforded the right to remain on paid administrative leave during the interim. Unfortunately we have a Chief of Police that will not abide by due process only by his own self inflated ego.

Louisville has had the wool pulled over its eyes for long enough. The people of Louisville in the form of a jury spoke loudly and clearly yesterday. ENOOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! Like President Bush said, you are either with the terrorists or with the United States. You can't sit on the fence and try and appeal to someone's better nature that doesn't have one. You either support the police or you support the criminals.

One of the jurors who decided McKenzie's case called me today. He heard all of the evidence in the case and wanted to let me know that he thanked God every day that people like McKenzie and the rest of his unit were brave enough to be police officers. The majority of people in this community appreciate your service and the sacrifices that you make each day. Thanks to those of you who supported McKenzie and his family through this nightmare.

Last night on the Joe Elliot show, one of the jurors called in and told all the listeners that after deliberatung and reviewing all the evidence that they called for a vote and immediately decided, no hesitation, that McKenzie was NOT GUILTY.

Thank God that the true citizens of Louisville, not the drug dealers or the parents of drug dealers were succesful in twisting this into a racial issue. It sickens me that this young dope dealer was portrayed as anything but what he was. A common criminal.

Joe was very succesful in defending his statements that Newby was a criminal. It was tragic what happened. Unfortunately though the true victims in all of this have been McKenzie and his family.

Another caller correctly pointed out that Newby was a criminal not someone that wanted to be a vetetenarian. DId he say that night, I am going to straighten my life around, but I think I'll go sell drugs and rob someone just one more time?"

I get so tired of all the family that comes out and tells about how the criminal was such a good boy, afterwards. I get tired of the media portraying them as anything but what they truly were. Why did the media show him smiling in a tuxedo instead of his booking picture with his gang t-shirt on?

Thanks God for Officers like McKenzie, for Attorneys like Steve Schroering and for jurors that can tell the truth from the pack of lies presented to them by the Commonwealths Attorney's Office.

Mac,

May God continue to bless you and your family. He answered our prayers when your heart for our community stood fast on the night of January 3rd; a night that you demonstrated ultimate bravery and courage so that my family and friends can sleep without the fear of crime. You and your family will remain in our prayers as you continue to battle through our legal system.

In the Bible David told his son Solomon "Be strong and of good courage, and act. Do not be afraid or dismayed; for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished." (1 Chronicles 28:20).

Buddy, may the Lord continue offer you the opportunities to bring the good out of others and protect us all from evil, wherever your life's path takes you. You have been and are a rock solid example for us all.

Thank you citizens of Louisville for listening to the truth and providing a jury that would give an innocnet man justice.

When will our elusive FOP begin to hold rallies and protests to assist in getting the message across that Mattingly deserves his job back. I suggest we start at the Chiefs house at say 0200 hours. It is a good time to remind people that they can sleep safe and soundly in thier beds at night becase of brave Officers like Mattingly. The mayors home would be another place to remind people. Our fellow officers in NYC have done this at NYC mayors home and have got thier point across quite well. We can not allow the racists and a corrupt Police chief to further destroy a Police Officers life.

How about it FOP president??????????????

McKenzie Mattingly Found Not Guilty

October 3rd, 2004 @ 7:39PM (19 years ago)

Not fired on a whim????????????? Placed before a review board???????????

Obviously your head has been buried int he sand next to the FOP presidents. Please go back to what the commonwealth atorney said on TV. If you recall he said that the morning after the shooting (not even 24 hours) he and the chief spoke by phone and they both agreed that this was a BAD SHOOTING. Wow what a review and what a great investigation. Guess the chief was still high on the marujauna he was cuaght with in his system in DC and decided he could get away with this obviously racist firing siding witht he racist Coleman and his racist party. And please enlighten the public as to what procedures and poliicies were broken that warranted firing an officer that was merely defending his life. Now that the facts that Mattingly was just defending his life have been proven to be true it is obvious that Mattingly did nothing wrong. Will all officers be fired now when they are called on to defend thier lives? And if you recall statements made by the chief in reference to the Taylor shooting he did NOT stand behind them or agree with what they did. He just wasn't stupid enough to fire them as he did with Mattingly. If only the citizens of this community really knew how negatively the chief has affected law enforcement here in Louisville. Officers are not working nearly as hard to keep this community safe because the chief continues to make very negative changes and continues to excessively discipline officers. He has actually put less officers on the street. People that live in suburban locations I advise you to call your local police district and ask them how many officers are on the street at the time of your call. I'll bet that it is a lot less than you will guess. Officers are spread so thin it is a danger to them and to you. It is a common occurence to pull officers responsible for mid level drug enforcement from thier assginment to ride the street in uniform because there are not enough police officers to cover the streets of the community. This leaves the drug dealers with NOBODY arresting them or investigating them. This results from the chief cutting the metro narcotics unit and street crimes unit down or eliminating them all together. But you will be happy to know he has continued to pull officers from street patrol and assign them to patrol public schools, even when school is not in session. The list goes on and on. Citiznes of Louisville I suggest you investigate what the chief has done and is doing because crime continues to rise and officers now have something else to worry about..............getting fired and indicted for defending thier own lives!!!

Officer Mattingly's review came from the chief's axe boys- Sgt. Sean Jackman and Lt. Mueller. Of course, the chief through in his two cents, too. The review board did not decide his fate. Are you referring to the Mayor's Citzens Committee for Police Accountability? One of the potential jurors for Mattingly's case sits on this committee- hand picked by the mayor. This person was stricken for basically stating they could not be fair towards Mattingly. This person made blatantly antipolice comments. Nice pick Jerry!

If Bobby were you to come to a complete stop, you would be half way up his a**.

If your not a Sgt. or Lt. you sure will be soon. Thats the kind of stupid, liberal thinking we have on this department. That RACIST idiot cares nothing for you or anyone else but himself. He did not stand behind the officers in the J.T. shooting. He told them they should resign, basically because they were a disgrace to the depart. After the Newby shooting, did he wait to pass judgement on Mattingly? No,

he came out the next day saying how it was a bad shoot. He didn't wait until the investigation was over and hear all the facts. The Coleman community is waiting to see an officer killed, and so is the chief. They don't care, black or white, white more so, but they just want to see it happen. So do yourself a favor, take a step back and look at where your loyalties lye.

October 4th, 2004 @ 6:29PM (19 years ago)

Chief White did not support the Officers in the James Taylor shooting. In fact he told them they should resign. The Commonwealth's Attorney made the decision not to prosecute.

ALSO, Chief White made up his mind to fire McKenzie Mattingly right away, the ink wasn't even dry on the internal affairs investigation before he fired him. Chief White and Chief White alone made tis decision.

ALSO, it had not been before any review board. It will be appealed to the Police Merit Board now that the trial is over and he has been found not guilty.

Get your facts straight before you post your thoughts.

ALSO, further proof of Chief White's true feelings ad motivation regarding this matter could be found in his press release stetement the noght of the verdict. He said something along the lines of 'While I personally don't agree with the verdict, we have to respect the judicial system and abide by it." He had already made up his mind. DO you think he reviewed the facts in detail before he made his decision? He didn't have time. Only the jury took the time to examine the evidence in detail and consider all the facts of the matter.

NO IT WASN'T PLACED BEFORE A REVIEW BOARD. HE MADE THE DECISION ON HIS OWN. THE NEXT STEP IN THE PROCESS IS TO TAKE IT BEFORE THE REVIEW BOARD FOR AN APPEAL. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. THE ONLY REASON IT HASN'T GONE BEFORE THEM YET IS BECAUSE THE TRIAL WAS LOOMING OVER EVERYTHING.

WOW! Finally someone in the media came to their senses and got it right! Let's review the latest:

1. Rev. Coleman "now" is not happy about the verdict......I bet he yells when his lottery ticket is not a winner! That's the next extortioncase!

2. The bullhorn posse has a new member Mr. J.B.! I heard that the parents of Mr. Newby do not even live in Louisvile. They live in Chicago! If we need a new figure in Louisville I'm all for Mayor Daley, he takes absolutely "no" crap from anyone!

3. I almost forgot! You now have a convicted DRUG DEALER(from CHICAGO) trying to change the legal process in Kentucky!

4. Who is in charge in Louisville? Jester Abramson? Sqauw Robert White (or Smokey as he commonly referred to by his officers) Dave Stengel? Man, Dave said he did not give in to "special interest groups", he forgot about his own special interest----future political interest! Oppps!

5. So the 3 (above Stooges) have seen their little conspiracy....back fire! And that was with the "dynamite" that Dave had in this case. I hope that Dynamite implodes his future political career, implodes Abramson's footing on that old rusty railroad bridge and his future floats down the Ohio with that bridge, and Sqauw White.......he lights up the wrong "piece" and explodes and he ends up back where ever he came from.......It's been a long ride and finally 12 people of Louisville backed Mckenzie and the truth came out. It appears the "circus" will continue until someone has the, lack of a better word, "BALLS" to stand up for what is truly important and quit the games!

Sincerely, Watchin' on my way back North (finally) on I-65 to the windy city!!!

God Bless the Officers of Louisville Metro!

If you remember correctly, Chief White didn't come in until after the Taylor case.
