That's true. It was founded by a group of former Confederate generals who were also high level members of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has transitioned from hard racism to soft bigotry. The soft bigotry of lowering standards and expectations, all in the name of equity.

Democrats were also the main driving force that pushed really hard to enact the post-Reconstruction Era state and local Jim Crow laws that remained on the books until at least the mid 1950s.
