The Democratic Party is still the party of slavery, just like it was in the 1860s. The only difference now is instead of using chains and whips, they keep minorities oppressed by taking away opportunities and any incentive whatsoever to succeed and make a better life. They keep the poor and minority communities subservient in perpetuity by giving away free handouts to keep them from complaining too much and realizing that a more rewarding life is even possible.
