Maybe not murderers as much, but all the others that you mentioned - pedophiles, rapists, sodomizers... a lot of clergy-abuse perpetrators would fall into those categories, catholic priests and others. They probably worship (presumably) the same god that you do. It has nothing to do with religion or the lack thereof, there will always be wicked people in this world. Having any particular religious belief isn't a requisite to be a good person with a strong conscience.
