The council is allowing itself to be as much to blame as the Mayor by remaining silent and taking no action. Anyone hoping to be mayor in the council will be remembered for their ineffective leadership during these times. Let a real candidate step up over the next two years as long as the Mayor is here and they will blow any existing politician in Louisville out of the water.

We have too many appointed ranks on this department. Probably not a bad idea for the chief and deputy chief to be appointed, but the ranks of Major and Lt. Colonel could become regular merit ranks. That would yield somewhere between 15-20 high level commanders that can think more independently and make decisions without fear of losing their jobs.
