Officer departures dominate LMPD budget hearing |
RE: Officer departures dominate LMPD budget hearing
His defense is the police didn't identify themselves and were mistaken as home invaders. Neighbors also say they didn't announce themselves. Courts traditionally give a lot credence to those claiming they were woken from sleep and fired at armed intruders they didn't know were police. Kentucky is a Castle Doctrine state. Mark my words. The guy is going to walk. No jury here will convict.

The other problem with that idea is that the bullets were fired by police at an unarmed individual. Unless the shooter was hiding behind her like a hostage take might do, there's no way you can convict him for that. This isn't the military. Police officers must have a clear target and justification for lethal force at all times. She got hit several times and the shooter got hit times. That's a bit of a problem.
