Officer departures dominate LMPD budget hearing

The obvious way to raise pay with no additional budget is to reduce the number of hours worked and raise the hourly pay. The department should stop all non-essential details. Namely, all the traffic guard duty for special events. Tell the event planners they must pay to maintain a minimum degree of security or they can go to another city. The recent audit showed how the city is footing 96% of the bill for special event security and now the city is nearing insolvency. It's a luxury we can't afford anymore.

Also get rid of all the non-essential Lt and Major positions. There's no need for a half-dozen or more Lts in units or the ones doing Sgt work at the divisions. There's no need for sworn officers to be doing social worker or public relations work every day like some are. The officers on the beat are who should be making daily community contacts as part of their daily duties instead of sitting in parking lots playing on their phones in between runs. That Patrol 101 but people seem to have forgotten it. Some divisions run people ragged due to understaffing so they never get a break or a chance to talk to regular people on their beats or developing routine sources of information.

Increase division staffing using all the extra bodies you can free up from the useless office spots so they can do so. There's no rule against telling the excess Lts or Majors to patrol the streets. Call them sector supervisors or something. Big egos and hide bound attitudes of "we've always done it this way" are major barriers to any improvements. If patrol is broke, then the whole department is broke, no matter how many fancy detective unit names Conrad comes up with or how many rainbow diversity community police cars they make. Keep your eye on the ball not on the bullsh-t.

The Metro councilwoman fails to realize that "hero's" reckless actions directly resulted in his girlfriend's tragic death. If "hero" hadn't fired gunshots at the officers, striking and injuring one in the process, then it wouldn't have been necessary to return gunfire.

It was a long time coming. I know whoever Fischer picks, they probably won't be much better, but it at least provides a minimal chance to start fixing the department. The first step needs to be replacing the vast majority of the people he elevated to command ranks.

Fisher, like Conrad, has a poor eye for talent. The metro council must ride herd on his @ss and NOT resort to their usual petty politics and race baiting if they want the city to have a future of any kind. Remember how we got in this position in the first place. Everyone was insisting we had a chief as "progressive" as Robert White instead of insisting we have a Chief with a proven track record capable of competently leading the department. Pick someone who has reduced crime substantially, kept their department out of trouble and not created low morale.

Picking a political hack will get you the same results every time: bad results and repeated scandals. If they pick another political chief, then 5 or 10 years from now when the department's again in big trouble, I'll be sure to post a screen shot of this.

I told you so. All the younger officers should learn from their mistakes. Smashing in doors for a dope case and a personal vendetta is a bad idea. The people inside will assume you're a criminal and so will the jury. They didn't even find any dope. The prosecutor is as pro-police as you could ever find and even he sees the problem.

Clearly the murderer should have been arrested the night he was beating his victim. False imprisonment and domestic assault are easy charges to make. Now she's dead. The officers are lucky they're only charged with misdemeanors. If the murder had happened that night, they could have been charged with criminal facilitation of murder.

When 2 officers make the same mistake and the Sgt goes along with it, then you know it's a problem in that division or possibly multiple divisions for the training unit and the new Chief to figure out.

LMPD has disintegrated under Conrad in multiple ways. There should be a panel commission by the metro council to look at all the weaknesses requiring correction in the next month.

Isn't it shocking to see the idiot Helm from BLM at today's protest at mayors office. Whether it is determined what the date of the officers will be. It is pathetic that someone like her only shows up for this type of incident but never any other crimes against African Americans in our community. Never saw her once when people were partying on Broadway or fighting during the lockdown orders to stop the spread. People like her have zero credibility and her bulls...

Among the many things wrong with this incident, notice "The officer was in the store nearly two hours while on duty that day" How does a Sgt or even an Lt not notice that?

The little dude is lucky it's just PIU coming after him with misdemeanor charges instead of a store clerk's biker gang daddy and brother. Certain people take offense when you tie their family's hands behind their back while making an unwanted sexual move like that.

A severely undermanned department isn't going to be able to stop a bunch of leftist radical psychotics intent on destruction. When will Fischer and command pull their heads out of their @sses enough to call for national guard backup?

If liars say the following day they had no warning and couldn't have anticipated it, everyone remind them that the "peaceful activists" communicated what they planned to do.

Wake up!!! This is what you get when weak indecisive leadership talking about compassion and filing out money for ******** takes office. Weak leaders like Fischer pick weak leaders like Conrad who in turn runs off strong leaders like Harper, Burbrink, since has been here. Where are schroedrr, chavous, Parks isn't she over patrol???? Absent and undeniably incompetent. Hess from FBI is more of same. Distrust of LMPD has erupted since Ischer and Conrad with distrust and their failure in this shooting by not having the balls to get out front only made it worse.

I look forward to the day I can retire and leave all this BS behind. I feel sorry for the guys and gals who have a long ways to go. It's never going to get better for the police. It used to be just the lefty's that despised the police now the conservative media is starting to turn on us as well. My advice is to answer your calls for service and do what is needed. If you need that ribbon on your chest to make you feel good then by all means go the extra mile but just remember the PD and the city will hang your a** out to dry to save there's if something goes sideways. Policing used to be fun when you could actually do your job the way it was supposed to be done. Anymore we've be relegated to babysitters, taxi cabs and social workers. Be safe and watch each other's backs because no one else has our backs anymore.

NCIC just entered Missing Reports on Conrad, Schroeder, Judah, Parks, and all the LMPD Command. "Have not been seen or heard from in days. Rumored to be out of county."
