The media are fools. They fail to understand that situations rapidly evolve and can change in an instant. They conveniently don't mention the very relevant part about the officers being fired upon by one of the suspects inside of the location listed and described on the search warrant. They don't care about the fact that an officer was struck by gunfire before the officers had to return gunfire. Like always, the plaintiffs' attorneys are trying to racialize the incident, even though there is no basis to support any such claim. The local and national media outlets only make this tragic situation even worse by sensationalizing everything, instead of just sticking to the known facts.

They got a no knock. Best time to execute a warrant is when they are away from the home. Night is the most dangerous. LEOs get shot on those no knocks and shooter WALKS a lot if the time, since they can't prove he knew they were shooting at police. Juries and judges assume you are disoriented after being suddenly woken and in fear for your life. Castle doctrine makes it hard to convict.

If you can't wait for them to come to the door or leave the home, have SWAT do it. Pot, crack and coke aren't worth this kind of trouble. Addicts will always find it. Put them all in mandatory rehab for 6 months. Jail and prison never made a dent in the addiction problem in this country anyhow.

I had a swat team kick in my door over a bogus anonymous tip and false positive from a field chemical test. The supposed "cocaine" was actually blue sugar from a candy called a "baby bottle pop." I had done nothing wrong and very little investigation was done to verify anything. So, this notion that police only have a warrant with your name on it if you are up to no good is absolutely incorrect. No guns, cocaine, or any other drugs were in my home. No charges were filed.
