Jury hands demoted LMPD officer $300,000 verdict in case against city

The other difference between then and now is there was a Public Safety director in between the LPD Chiefs and the Mayor's office. Now the Chief answers to a Deputy Mayor and they're political operatives whose first loyalty is to the holder of the office, not the people of the city. There needs to be a layer of professional executive leadership who can keep divisions from being managed from the Mayor's office through command sockpuppets like today.
