You pay for it either way where property taxes and non-police services are concerned, whether it's to the urban services district taxes or another fee or tax paid to someone else. The old broke city of Louisville got to leech off the rest of the county by imposing its occupational taxes on the entire county while providing minimal services. Police coverage is ridiculously thin, bordering on non-existent, outside most of the old city. The department has yanked every officer and flex detective he possibly could to shore up the overwhelmed west end divisions. Crime's gone way up in the suburbs, both violent and non-violent. The people in the suburbs don't get any of the free giveaways like the special events or the free internet, except for the occasional scoop of ice cream at Kroger that Kroger pays for not LMPD.

If merger's done anything good, post it here. Most people are unaware of what that might be, except a lot of false advertising about Louisville suddenly becoming a top 20 city. We're only at the top in the murder rate not anything else. The suburb residents should be able to incorporate their own cities to get away from Metro or even join another county. LMPD doesn't even try to protect the outlying areas anymore. Someone should be honest and admit that.
