thats a pretty pathetic excuse, because unless you're going to argue lulls in activity happen coincidentally with cop injuries, then you always somehow find the time when its your own.

That's only going to be a problem so long as LMPD stays behind the times. Many types of police reports are done online by more modern police departments and that will only expand as software gets better at deciding what follow-up questions are necessary. The software will be able to read answers to the basic questions then ask subsequent questions based on what you tell it, just like a patrol officer might.

Even if a human has to finish some parts of the report later, letter the computers take the initial information will save a lot of time for officers. Illiterate people and those without internet access will be able talk to voice response computers using a telephone and forward to a human if they have problems.

The human report taker will always be needed when there's an arrest or citation that needs to be made, or a victim's computer illiterate, but offloading as much as possible on computers will free up officers for more critical tasks.
