It won't get better unless Fischer loses, Leet hires in a new chief from a competent department somewhere, and they bring in several outside command staff to run the department. Most of those who've gone up the ranks lack the qualifications, integrity, intelligence and skillset to fix this department.

The job requirements haven't changed, but the way the job is done has changed, which is exactly why crime is going up.

In a few more years it won't matter for most people thanks to 20-year retirements, laterals to other departments and other career opportunities. I feel sorry for those left behind, but not as sorry as I feel for the scared citizens living on edge as thugs prowl their neighborhoods and kill, rape, and rob.

If things continue like this, we'll be talking about the rise of vigilante violence in a few more years. People downtown will be scratching their heads wondering how it could possibly happen here.
