Don't worry about spending the last 15 years in a department that couldn't arrest its way out its problems. If you need any tips or instruction on how to police, ask your local KSP trooper.

Once again the rich boy heir of a rich boy heir liberal politician trashes LMPD in his personal yellow-journalism tabloid rag. Daddy must want to score some political points. He ignores how his protester friends were walking the wrong way down a major thoroughfare.

The only thing the Leo is good for is picking up dog poop and keeping nose ringed activist career students from the Highlands semi-employed.

It's a bad neighborhood under the surface, has major gang issues and the whole area is rife with drug cultivation and trafficking. KSP should have a cold case squad and organized crime unit permanently assigned to Bardstown. It's a monument to how pathetic law enforcement got under Steve Beshear and Barack Obama, just like Louisville.

I can think of lots more that waste resources other than assiting ICE... Like the 80 details, two of which are Mayors Hike and Bike every 6 months, dispatching on barking dogs, kids that wont go to school, countless school traffic since TCO's are understaffed or sick. Sooooooo much more waste the police time.

Do you work with people who have a perpetual "no activity, no problems" philosophy? Has somebody you know acquired a voluntary passivity, which makes them dangerous to themselves and other officers.

You may be retired on duty if:

1.) Your personal squad check regimen is to put black tape over your camera, turn off your radar, turn on your favorite FM station, and browse on your phone to your personal Facebook page. You are able to perform these tasks one handed and with more admirable smoothness than a firearms instructor demonstrating a tactical reload.

2.) Your first stop of every shift is at IHOP for the six-egg omelet with extra cheese. This does not preclude you from enjoying a lunch break in a few hours, because you call it in as a "Community Policing" stop.

3.) Your second call of the day is from nature, and your back up is the latest issue of Better Homes and Gardens. This operation takes longer to finish than the six-egg omelet.

4.) You consider it a "Terry Stop," when you pull into Thorntons, where your buddy is working the counter. He allows for unlimited free coffee and soda. You stay only long enough to drain, re-fill, and drain your bladder again. You log in another "Community Policing" stop.

5.) Your day-off calendar has your scheduled days off circled and the adjacent day you plan on calling in sick each month squared. You square them because you say, "A square has four sides and it's four times as much fun to be off when you are not supposed to be."

6.) You set your car on cruise to respond to hot calls. This is not to insure that you arrive safely, but second.

7.) You deliberately tie yourself up and dawdle on minor calls while underprivileged youth beat old people into a pulp on the TARC bus.

8.) At every evaluation your Sergeant asks, "What are you doing out there?" and you reply, "Suppressing terrorism." The Sergeant counters, "We have never had a terrorist attack here." You respond, "See. It's working." You leave chuckling to yourself, with full knowledge your Sgt had been rendered powerless to take disciplinary action by scared command staff.

9.) Instead of counting sheep to get to sleep you count the saps on the PD who work hard and get paid the same as you. This technique puts you right to sleep every time. Then your alarm sounds and it is time to maneuver your squad car out of the cemetery to end your shift on time.

10.) Your personal goal is to never make more arrests in a month than your hat size and you wish you had a smaller head.

11.) Your squad has become a portable drive-up window. You never exit the squad to make contacts. You park and make people approach you. When someone asks you to do anything you sarcastically reply, "Do you want fries with that?"

12.) Your mantra is, "A good cop never gets cold, wet, or hungry," and you believe you are a good cop, because you don't.

13.) You have been counting down the days to retirement since your first day on solo patrol.

14.) You are line supervisor that is always the last to arrive at a bad scene because you were at your house watching Law and Order reruns, but the first to accept credit when it goes well. When it goes badly you are a master at assessing blame and avoiding responsibility.

15.) You have done all of the above and have still been promoted to become a member of command, who walks about the building carrying a sheet of paper in your hand going no place in particular. You are one of the highest paid people on the department yet no one on the department can explain what it is that you do, including you and the other gold-wearing ROD Royalty.

Fill out that survey it will be heard

Remember, everyone needs to fill out that survey you got on your email. It is about leadership and it matters to the chief that he is a good leader and appoints good leaders.

There are several inaccuracies in the Leo's latest article about LMPD's interactions with ICE. https://www.leoweekly.com/2017/09/lmpd-helped-immigration-agents/

"Conrad said no officer would report someone to ICE". FALSE. Officers have the same rights as other citizens to report violations of federal law. LMPD has no official policy stating officers are forbidden from reporting potential violations to federal authorities, because that kind of policy would violate federal obstruction of justice statutes. Any such order from the Chief would be unlawful.

"A man they were chasing for an immigration offense hit some mailboxes with his SUV and ran into the woods. The dispatcher asked if they were actually in trouble. "Not right now, but whenever they can get here would be great," he said. LMPD marked the reason for the call as trouble, and sent three cars." FALSE: Officers responded due to reported wanton endangerment in an auto, criminal mischief and reckless driving.

"LMPD officers have arrested people at the ICE office on 7th Street at least three times, at an agent's request, for outstanding warrants." FALSE: When ICE agents report a wanted subject to LMPD, it's not a request for a subject to be arrested, but a tip that permits the department to catch someone who's eluded justice. The person requesting officers to make the arrest is the judge who signed the warrant, not ICE.

"Enid Trucios-Haynes, an immigration attorney and professor at the University of Louisville's Brandeis School of Law, said the mayor and police chief told her they were only assisting when suspects were high-risk, such as past weapons offenses or violent crimes." FALSE: Officers respond as time allows to any report of a subject wanted for or committing state crimes, regardless of whether the informant is an ICE agent or a member of the public.

If the media has any more questions, they should post their questions to LMPD.com to get more accurate answers.

"In October, as LMPD undercover officers were preparing to serve a search warrant for computers at Betts' business, Betts allegedly asked Shaw to access the National Crime Information Center database, or NCIC, to run the license plates of the officers in order to determine their identities. Improperly accessing the NCIC database can result in criminal charges. Shaw is under investigation for misdemeanor official misconduct, the sources told WDRB News"

New LMPD policy regarding relationship with ICE

September 22nd, 2017 @ 3:16PM (7 years ago)

http://www.wdrb.com/story/36431547/metro-louisville-announces-new-policy-defining-lmpds-relationship-with-ice

So we don't enforce Federal law anymore except in certain circumstances.

The mayor's office outlines only three instances in which officers will be dispatched:

1) When there is a criminal warrant, other than a warrant related to immigration status;

2) When a crime has occurred, or is in the process of occurring;

3) In an emergency situation, when there is "a clear public danger."

I may be wrong, but isn't an illegal alien committing a crime by being here illegally? Regarding item #2, the illegal alien "is in the process of" committing a crime. I guess that one slipped by Dennis Sims. Regarding item #1, doesn't a warrant that has been properly signed by a judge state the listed individual is to (shall) be taken into custody and brought forthwith to jail? Isn't the sanctuary Mayor and Chief ordering us, sworn police officers, to disregard a lawful proclamation from the court? Just asking for a friend.

Turned into a joke

September 22nd, 2017 @ 5:14PM (7 years ago)

Yep! The Mayor and the Chief have turned this city upside down. Boat loads of officers leaving for smaller departments and in many cases less pay or in some cases quitting after becoming disenchanted with law enforcement after their experience in lmpd. Crime out of control so bad Louisville ranks 9th nationally and number 1 on per capita violent crime. And the list goes on and on and on.....

I will be informing ICE of the location of illegal immigrants daily, in hope that PSU and command will charge me with disobeying a direct order. I need the $500,000 settlement payment and would very much like to see them all charged by ICE for intimidating federal witnesses. This should be fun.
