Only about 45% of registered voters showed up to vote in the last 2 Mayoral elections. Over half of this county is too apathetic to even bother. If someone who mattered ran, then you'd get many more additional voters showing up than the 8000 who tipped the scales for Fischer against Heiner. The Republicans didn't put anyone up for election in 2014.

The guy who ran against Fischer in 2014 was a school board member from another county who nominated himself the day before the deadline. He had no party support and little money, but still won 31% of the vote.

Anyone who thinks the department's alleged child molestation and rape scandals, the failed economic development deals, the skyrocketing homicide rate, and Fischer's aloof "let them eat cake" attitude towards it all wouldn't hand the election to a serious candidate is only fooling themselves.

Serious question. And I'm not being Condescending . Why does it matter who the mayor is? Do you honestly believe there will be some major noticeable change with the new mayor? I mean really it's just the mayor not president. Jeez!
