It's good to see citizens willing to step into the fray to defend the lives of others, including police. He'd have been fully justified in blowing that guy's brains across the street. There are plenty current and retired people readily available to testify in any self-defense shooting like that if hug-a-thug attorneys want to make it a criminal case.

The negligent policy allowing officers to make arrests by themselves needlessly puts officers in danger. If the chief isn't willing to admit that the current anti-police climate requires 2-officer patrols and more officers on the department due to his boss's liberal politics, then he should resign. One of the primary responsibilities of a chief is to speak truth to political power when required to keep people safe in the community. I don't believe he is fulfilling that responsibility today. Louisville needs a chief who is not merely another member of the Mayor's staff, but who is a leader that can really lead and provide the objective expertise this city needs today more than ever.

This video shows how the lawyer-approved arrest tactics being taught are useless sometimes, just like pepper spray is useless on the bipolars and drug users. 20 years ago somebody would have smashed this guy's skull with a mag-lite to end the fight real quick. Wrestling around with someone gives them a chance to grab something off your belt and use it against you. The choice has been made to put officers' lives at greater risk to protect people assaulting officers.

This is the kind of news coverage that makes me turn off the news. Is it any more relevant that someone thought she "loved her kids" anymore than people though serial killer Ted Bundy was "a nice guy". No, it is not. A mother who loves her kids doesn't murder them.

When the media doesn't know the real reasons, they just go in whatever direction their liberal hug-a-thug feelings take them.

The crooked state doesn't want to let loose of CERS because they'll lose their piggybank. Someone should start investigating them for fraud and embezzlement.

I'm worried, it's seems the FOP guys fighting this pension reform, are all young guys tier 2, tier 3. They are calling for don't change anything, and we all stick together. That sounds all good, but what about us Tier 1 guys that have just few years to go. We've been promised a 20 year pension, and put the longest time in so far. I hope this all or nothing approach doesn't screw us! In my opinion they should have some kinda graduated age scale. It's not right. Some guy retires at 42 and collects immediately, a year later another 42 year old retires and he has to wait until 55. Even though these guys worked 19 years together, that 1 year difference might be close to half a million dollars.

When fools are shooting people in the back at random, it calls for a different style of policing. The old LPD style. It's about time LMPD quit jacking off on the SOP manual and get back to doing the job everyone was hired to do.

Does anybody know if you received a rehire letter if you are pretty much a shoe in to be rehired? I know it's still up the chief if they will take you back but I'm wondering if people are rejected "all the time" or are most pretty much taken back if they reapply.

For anybody tempted to respond with "Why would you want to come back?" There! I've done your snarky response for you so no need.

Who's Conrad trying to kid? We all know the investigation was directed by the Mayor's office for partisan political reasons, not him. He's a sock puppet.

Metro's in big trouble if O'Connell is really this bad of a trial attorney and the case goes to a jury. He seems to have it in for David Yates. Combined with the fact that he's trying to say the city's not to blame for pedophilia molestation by on-duty officers, just about any jury will hand them the city's whole bank account. Metro should hire a competent outside firm.

Wait, weren't the gangland and drug dealer shootings supposed to never go east? All those people were saying the department could just let them shoot each other. Put away the ice cream cones. Someone may have to do some actual policing there.

Heroin use is a victimless crime? Wrong. We can arrest our way out of this kind of problem ALL DAMN DAY like the Nike t-shirt says.

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article170969167.html

A Kentucky woman has been arrested after she allegedly used heroin and attempted to drive with her children in the back seat of her car, according to local media reports. Khaleelah Muhammad, 32, has been charged on two counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of assault, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to maintain insurance in Louisville, Kentucky, according to court records. Police records indicate that Muhammad was allegedly under the influence of heroin on Thursday night while driving. At around 9:30 p.m., police say, Muhammad drove through the yard of a house and then struck the home, per WDRB. Police say she also damaged the neighbor's property.

By the time the homeowner got down to the scene of the crash, he said Muhammad had taken her children, a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old, inside the house and begun choking them, per WLKY.

"She had them both in a bear hug, and she was laying right here," Raymond Stewart, the house's owner, told WLKY. "While she was laying right here, she peed on the floor. She kept saying, 'I'm a witch' or something." Per WDRB, Muhammad only stopped attacking her children after a firefighter came to the scene. Both WDRB and WLKY report that the children are now fine and are in custody of Child Protective Services. Muhammad, meanwhile, allegedly admitted to police that she was on heroin at the scene of the crash and gave a blood sample, but refused to perform any field sobriety tests.

Officer says pension crisis could trickle down to police shortage http://www.wave3.com/story/36282701/officer-says-pension-crisis-could-trickle-down-to-police-shortage

The inaccurate part of this story is the "could trickle down." It already has. Anyone around many years ago remembers the long line of people applying. They turned away dozens of qualified applicants for every open spot. Now they can't find enough minimally qualified people to fill a class without hiring back retirees.

Most new recruits will stick around long enough to see if they become a Sgt quickly or can find an easy office job of some kind before tiring of the street. They will have an endless revolving door of inexperienced officers coming and going.

If LMPD followed the same hiring standards as most other police departments, he'd never have been hired.

Milwaukee paid out $2.5 million for a police officer raping someone. Another case in Florida got $3.1 million each for 2 victims. 6 victims x $3 million each = $18 million. All for a guy who'd have never been hired 15 years ago.
