Man charged with murder of LMPD officer blames officer for fatal crash

I heard from a reliable source down at headquarters that beginning the start of the 2018 fiscal year, Metro government will charge all officers $900 a month for the privilege of being employed.

They will have a worse retention problem for the new officers. I don't know how LMPD is going to keep anyone. The Tier 3 cash balance plan retirement benefits will be less for most people with degrees than what you could get from working for a good company. Indiana police departments still offer a real police pension. It's not that hard to get certified over there or just take their academy when it's the deciding factor allowing you to retire 10 or 15 years earlier.

LMPD and other KY police departments have to match 7.5% of pay, which is about the same or a little more than the 401k match offered by many private employers. Salaries are generally better for those with degrees in the private sector. You also lose money because Kentucky caps the growth of retirement funds at 4%. Even a moderate risk Target Date retirement fund in a 401k plan earns about 7% over the long term. Once your target year is reached, the target year funds automatically go into a income retirement fund earning about 5%. That's way better than the annuity that will be offered by the state to Tier 3 retirees. The 4% cap on earnings is driven by them wanting the new people's excess earnings to subsidize the retired people. So in other words, the new people get screwed twice. There's no 20 year half-pay retirement for them, but they get to pay for someone else's 20 year retirement. LMPD will be lucky to have anyone at all willing to work here at all.
