Read your KRS, the sheriff doesn't have to patrol. Just collect taxes and work accidents on county roads...

You're right

Also, I would have reserve deputies and corrections do a part time academy. Have them do a Saturday and Sunday or a Friday and Saturday for 10 hour classes each week. That's 80 hours a month, have them do that for a year that's about 960 hours of training. That a 100+ Certified officers in the city right there. If they going to be 200-300 short on officers they need to find new ways of getting people trained. And the other suburban agencies need to be pulling their weight. ( I know the logistics of this might be a cluster f**k but it's worth a try)

I hope an English teacher doesn't see that post. It will surely cause a heart infarction.

Aubrey would need money to start street patrol. He'd also need to come to an agreement with LMPD over who's doing what. Without an agreement, patrolling like that would be stepping into a political hornet's nest and essentially saying LMPD is failing at its job. He's not at a stage in life where a pissing contest is worth it. The Metro Council should hand him the money to hire Deputies and task him through an ordinance to start patrolling if that's what they want.
