Louisville never gets someone who's been Chief of a similar sized or bigger city. White came from Greensboro, NZ which has 280,000 people and Conrad came from Glendale, AZ which has 235,000 people. Whenever you hire a Chief from a much smaller city like that you take a gamble, especially if they were only there a few years. Sanders was hired from DEA, and turned out OK for tiny J-Town, but bigger departments like Chicago have been severely burned hiring Chiefs from federal agencies. Departments better have much better chances hiring senior officers from departments who've actually cut crime during their tenure, whether they're large or small. Hiring in some guy who just talks the liberal talk and hasn't really done much will get the same results LMPD has already gotten.
