Fischer: Police union vote a 'distraction'

December 22nd, 2016 @ 6:10PM (7 years ago)

I dismiss the future former Mayor's dismissal. It just proves he never did care even a little bit what any police officer thinks and never will. Repeal and replace this administration.

Understand Fischer could care less about the crime in this city. If he did he would hire a Dotson or Jones to be police chief. As long as he can get the vote by spinning his double talk to everyone and get their vote he don't give a sh!t, don't let him kid you. He is a democratic Jerry clone who favorite motto is blame somebody else for everything. This city is becoming unsafe and he knows it, but won't do anything about it because he is letting a bunch of on the payroll, yes men fools, tell him everything will be ok. I actually thought after bighead Jerry left things would get better but it didn't just the same old failed policies as before. Conrad doesn't have a clue what to do because he has forgot what policemen actually do. Fight Crime. I have looked around in the crowds in this city and have seen more outlines of handguns on people I thought would never have to carry, so much for possibility city (possibility you might get shot). The courts are a revolving door in Jefferson County where more attention is being put on a mouthy woman in a mall than a murderer. This city is in trouble and when it hits the east end where the cash flow comes from Fischers feet will be put to the fire, until then NOTHING will change because he could care less about the police or anybody in the west end. I heard Jerry made the comment police were an expenditure he hated and if he could have outsource the dept he would. Fischer just took up where that fool left off. Officers have a safe holidays and be careful. I know how you feel I worked for LMPD and after 30 yrs and made it to retirement where I hope all you fine officers end up. God bless all of you for the thankless job you have, some good people still care.

I wouldnt let my child walk in the Pegasus Parade

I wouldn't let my child march in the Pegasus parade or even come into the city for ANY derby events next year do to the possibility I might get shot or worse. (Possibility City)..LOL

The Ferguson Effect Lives On

Violence in American cities rose again in 2016, as cops backed off proactive policing.

The Black Lives Matter crusade against the police continued to cost lives and destroy civil peace in 2016. Two recent estimates of violent crime in the nation's largest cities show that murders and shootings remained on an upward trajectory this year, as officers backed off of proactive policing. The Brennan Center for Justice projects that murders in the 30 largest cities will be 14 percent higher in 2016 compared with 2015, a stunning increase coming as it does on top of 2015's already massive homicide rise, which was 14.5 percent in all cities with populations over 250,000 and 20 percent in cities with populations from 500,000 to 1 million. The Wall Street Journal found that homicides increased in 16 of the 20 largest police departments in 2016. Meanwhile, gun murders of police officers are up 68 percent through December 23, compared with the same period in 2015.

Medium-sized cities that don't show up in the Brennan Center or Wall Street Journal analyses are also in distress. Cleveland's murder numbers, for example, are up again in 2016 over 2015, which, with a 15 percent spike over 2014, was already one of the deadliest years in a decade. By early December 2016, Richmond had logged a 40 percent increase in homicides over 2015, making this year Richmond's deadliest in a decade. And even in some cities where homicides decreased modestly over the previous year's violent crime surge, the drop may simply reflect the vagaries of emergency-room treatment, ambulance speeds, and gangbangers' shooting skills. Non-fatal shootings are up in Baltimore, though homicides are down slightly compared with 2015. Measured on a per capita basis, 2016 will still be Baltimore's second deadliest year in its history.

The media, academia, and some police officials are again twisting themselves into knots to deny that depolicing is responsible for the ongoing violent-crime increase. None of their alternative explanations fits the timing. The Wall Street Journal cites Yale sociologist Andrew Papachristos for the proposition that the demolition of Chicago's massive public-housing projects is resulting in more gang violence today: "What we are seeing now is more 'mom and pop' type of activity," he says. But the last of the projects went down in 2011. Chicago's homicides dropped significantly in 2013 and 2014. It was only in 2015, as race riots and virulent anti-cop protests spread across the country and as Chicago cops went "fetal," in Mayor Rahm Emanuel's words, that Chicago's homicides and shootings started spiking.

The Brennan Center cites "long-term socioeconomic problems (high poverty, unemployment, and racial segregation)" for the 2016 violent crime increase, the same explanation it gave last year for the 2015 crime spike. But such "long-term socioeconomic problems" have not worsened in the last two years. In implicit recognition of that fact, the Brennan Center this year has added an ad hoc supplemental explanation: cities with high poverty "are more prone to short-term spikes in crime," the Brennan researchers allege without evidence. But last year's national homicide increase was not some typical short-term blip; it was the largest in nearly 50 years. Virtually every population tranche of cities experienced it. The Brennan Center also cites "gang violence" as a cause of the rising violence in Chicago--a circular explanation.

University of Missouri, St. Louis, criminologist Richard Rosenfeld continues to propose that a loss in police legitimacy has made residents of high-crime areas less willing to cooperate with the police in solving crimes, and more likely to turn to retaliatory shootings in search of justice. But the no-snitch ethic has been the code of the streets for decades in minority areas. The young men who are gunning each other down in black ghettos at elevated rates were no more likely three years ago to fulfill their civic duties by helping solve shootings. What has changed is their likelihood of getting stopped and questioned by the police as they hang out on the corner; with the police backing off, they are more likely to carry and use guns.

The head of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, Darrel Stephens, cites the easy availability of firearms as a possible cause of the crime increase. Firearms were just as available in 2013 and 2014, however, before the Michael Brown police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, ignited the Black Lives Matter movement and its fawning media coverage. Stephens also cites the usual alleged root causes of violence: "high poverty, high unemployment, low educational achievement." Again, however, they have not worsened since Ferguson.

The strong version of what I have called the Ferguson Effect--a drop in proactive policing leading to rising crime--is the only explanation for the crime increase that matches the data. The country has just elected a new president who understands that the false narrative about the police has led to the breakdown of law and order in inner cities. If the crime situation improves in the coming year, it will be because Black Lives Matter calumnies no longer have an echo chamber in the White House and because cops on the beat believe that they will now be supported for trying to restore order where informal social control has broken down.

I wonder if hizhonor will be as quick to issue a public statement condemning this brouhaha in the same manner as the one he made regarding the incident at the Jefferson Mall.

I'll be waiting patiently for the corporate press release banning these individuals from walmart for life as well.

Deja vu or broken record?

December 8, 2016. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police will spend $1.2 million in overtime costs to fund extra patrols in seven high-crime areas, Chief Steve Conrad said Thursday. Police also plan to form a task force between LMPD and federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The task force will specialize in gang activity, firearms and violence crime.

Breaking news - impact of Chicago snowstorm

December 26th, 2016 @ 9:45AM (7 years ago)

CHICAGO--The city of Chicago is steadily recovering from an overnight snowstorm that delayed hundreds of murders on Saturday night and will likely continue to push numerous homicides across the city drastically behind schedule, public authorities announced.

"As we speak, maintenance crews are working diligently to restore public transportation, de-ice roads, and clear back alleyways so that Chicagoans can quickly resume murdering again," Department of Streets and Sanitation spokesman Dave Michelson said of the heavy blizzard, which caused numerous homicide cancellations last night at peak murder times.

"Unfortunately, we're backed up by about 35 deadly shootings at the moment, but we hope to restore regular death tolls as soon as possible. We apologize to anyone forced to postpone shootings or other killings today and assure concerned murderers that they will be able to resume slayings by early Monday afternoon." At press time, authorities reported that murders were up and running in many parts of the city.

Merry Christmas Chicago!

Jefferson Mall Shut Down

December 27th, 2016 @ 5:21AM (7 years ago)

So I see a peace walk got out of hand at Jefferson Mall last night and rampaging loitering teens caused the mall to shut down at 8. With all the cell phone cameras out there, I find it hard to believe that video of the peace walk can't be found. I wonder what race the "loitering" teens are? Them darn Swiss don't know how to act in public. Way to represent!

Of Course...

Of course no one internally will tell the mayor that they don't approve of him, or his chosen aides. After all, that would be career suicide. Just tell your boss (or the boss' boss) that you don't approve of his / their approaches / methods, and then just wait for the pink slip in your mailbox.

Mayor: maybe you should get an outside group to run a survey? Oh, wait... then you might get real answers, not just what you want to hear.

Of course the mayor got the answers he did: he got the answers he wanted, because if you questioned or disagreed with him, your job would be on the chopping block.

Now, what about getting the truth?

This should be shown in every recruit class right before they start learning about use of force. They should also show it to the people who think all police shootings involving a suspect with a knife are bad shootings.

Fischer: Police union vote a 'distraction'

January 1st, 2017 @ 12:01PM (7 years ago)

EVERY news interview the Chief and Mayor have given said one of the reasons for the "uptick" in murders and shootings is the EASY access to guns... Well it was just as EASY for criminal thugs to get gun in 2013 when the murder rate was 48.... They are sooooo pretty. The media NEVER challenges them on ANYTHING. Like furguson effect, no more 20 year retirement, $800 a month family health insurance, no take home car for 3 years, riding with 8 patrol cars in all entire divisions, 1 min of OT for patrol was highly frowned upon for last decade, weak leadership in nearly the entire dept. This is why cops are sitting in parking lots for their 12 hour shift. but the media is like crickets and pushes for no real answers to tough legit questions.. There are several other reasons but my fingers are tired from typing.

4 in custody after mentally disabled man tied up, tortured on Facebook Live http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/crime/227116738-story

Chicago investigators are questioning four African-Americans after a Facebook Live video shows a group of people torturing a white mentally disabled man while someone yelled "F*** Trump!" and "F*** white people!"

Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. A young African American woman streamed the video live on Facebook showing at least four people holding the young white man hostage.

Although President-elect Donald Trump was mentioned, Chicago Police do not believe the crime was politically motivated.

"I think some of it is just stupidity, people just ranting about something that they think might make a headline. I don't think that at this point we have anything concrete to really point us in that direction, but we'll keep investigating and we'll let the facts guide us on how this concludes," Supt. Johnson said.
