First off LMPD shouldn't be run based on opinion polls. Competent leadership doesn't care if a certain subset of people want to let crime and chaos proliferate. If you are a law enforcement professional, then you competently enforce the law without regard to politics and let the Mayor roll the dice if he decides to fire you for that.

The majority of west end citizens want more police protection. This is what their metro council representatives are saying. The more reputable community activists are also saying that. The more radical leftist activist fringe of course thinks police are all bad. Most white citizens who live in blissful ignorance of the problems are where they usually are, in the more affluent neighborhoods to the east of downtown. If Greg Fischer thinks he's going to win re-election again on the backs of the west end with a murder rate this high, then he needs to stop smoking dope.

And the bad thing is, the news media gives the very vocal minority in the west end who hate everything the police stand for the most face time on the news. It's not the planes that land safely everyday that make the news, but the one that crashes. That's how the media shapes the narrative these days instead of reporting the facts.
