LMPD should have 1600 officers, including restoring all the Flex positions, 200 more in patrol and 100 new positions in a street crimes/gang unit. The 9th Mobile Division should be disbanded and merged into the other 3 units and narcotics. They should hire some retired people with a history of success in other cities to draft a new enforcement strategy. Police can't do everything but fixing the obvious inadequacies at LMPD can go a long way towards reducing homicides in the short-term.

Obama, Beshear and Fischer spent years making us less safe through early inmate releases and weakening law enforcement. The American people sent a clear message that it's now time to fix this problem.
