What's the worst that can happen to an officer? Suspension. What happens when a private guard is a no-call, no-show? Usually they get fired unless they or a family member are in the hospital.

The point is there's nothing unique about an LMPD officers that makes them better for the job of standing around in mass numbers at one of the Mayor's weekly events. It didn't matter as much when Louisville's violent crime was low, but now violent crime is very high, manning is inadequate to handle the calls for service and officers have very little time to proactively police their beats. The Chief is even cutting Flex to make up for the retirements. The P in LMPD stands for police not private security.
