How much SWAT experience or training do you have? Your 1800s argument says "none"

Your idea doesn't work. Drug house suspects know they'll probably go away for 20 years to life, so they grab their heaviest weapon and try to repel police while trying to shoot their way out of the home. When you wake them up by surprise, you gain critical seconds that prevent them from taking up a good firing position. They know the home and SWAT doesn't, so those couple seconds are very important. They could have AK-47's, pipebombs, or anything else in there. Drug houses are usually linked to gangs, cartels or organized crime and their occupants aren't inclined to go down easy. If the occupants of a stash house ever all leave the house, which is rare, then it could easily be boobytrapped with bombs.

This is what can happen when SWAT's not there at the beginning. http://abc3340.com/news/local/shooting-investigation-underway-in-southwest-birmingham
