Actually they do. It's their Special Response Team. They train and are equipped with riot gear. From what I understand, they really never got any kind of recognition until the past couple of years, and they have been fortunate because the protesters here have been relatively peaceful compared to other cities.

The FOP has stood by as wages fell far behind inflation, as retirement was gutted and as medical costs soared. They are good for keeping the people who should be fired from getting fired.

This Mayor and Chief are just playing the Democrat city playbook, same as their predecessors, which is turn the department into report takers and avoid all controversy. The problem is that violent crime goes sky high when you do that. They are the blind leading the blind. This city is lacking in SWAT, anti-riot and every area of proactive undercover law enforcement needed to cut violent crime, including gangs, organized crime, narcotics, and intelligence. Patrol is a bandaid on a gaping chest wound in the west end and south end. Louisville hired the wrong administration and has the violent crime to prove it.
