RE: Charges filed in Pegasus Parade shooting
I agree it's more likely today than ever because of the reduced pool of qualified applicants. All of the anti-police rhetoric, the liberal political climate turning the department into a special events security guard service, the elimination of 20-year retirement, and the starting salaries not keeping up with other cities have taken their toll. The fat, dumb and happy people who post idiotic responses to all comments of this nature are the ones who would have been fired a long time ago anywhere else, but who thrive in the anti-merit political environment around here.
That said, there were several people hired in years past who were nothing but thugs and criminals, most of whom are long gone. JCPD was told to ignore the merit list and hire people who fit the "correct demographics" and that's what happened. LPD had its own subset of rogues who were frequently in trouble but never fired. A few were in the paper recently and got themselves in some major trouble elsewhere. The biggest difference between then and now is the leadership didn't get in the way of the civil service Captains who really ran the department and kept a lid on crime. Today the politicians are mucking around in everything and crime is going through the roof.
