Governor-Elect Bevin backed a “vigilant” approach in blocking Syrian refugees pending a review of “risks to our citizens.”
"The recent terrorist attacks in Paris serve as a warning to the entire civilized world that we must remain vigilant,” he said in a written statement. “This is why I am joining with other governors across the country in opposing the resettlement of Syrian nationals until we can better determine the full extent of any risks to our citizens."
Governor Steve Beshear tweeted a statement Monday evening. Beshear backed offering help to those in need – noting that many refugees “are women [and] children and people who are in desperate need.”
