So why does a Metro Safe supervisor think he's funny by chanting "pigs in a blanket, fry like bacon"? Does he think that it's in any way appropriate as an EMA employee who works directly with police, fire and ems to say this? Does he think it is off color humor or is it a real look into his perspective? Is this the thought process of someone who could be responsible for the handling/response to a situation that is happening nation wide here in the Metro area? Will an officer potentially have delayed or mismanaged responses to a critical or life saving situation because someone willingly slows the process down to hinder it? This is not a supposed situation, this person has said these comments several times recently to almost every situation that has happened nationwide.

On behalf of the Kentucky State Police and Trooper Ponder (I have no authorization to represent either) I sincerely appreciate all the LMPD officers who attended services both days. There were many. I know the LMPD Honor Guard was very much appreciated as well. Hopefully, we will never have to return the "favor". KSP Trooper retired.

I am surprised the department would be this far off the mark In a public statement about something that is already on the record. The truth is neither LMPD or KSP were ever given the money needed to process evidence, whether it be for rapes or other crimes. This was not some procedural error because of merger in 2003. This was the department, KSP and many other law enforcement agencies across this country being told it wasn't important enough to pay for. LMPD does not exist in a vacuum. I would tell them to get a clue, but obviously they have their hands full with that already.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Metro Police Department is making changes after a new 97-page report from the state’s auditor.

The audit showed 3,090 rape kits around Kentucky are still waiting to get tested and about 1,300 of them belong to LMPD.

“We have to go back and reevaluate every case file involved with a rape kit that’s actually in our property room,” Lt. Carolyn Nunn, the commander of LMPD’s special victims unit, said.

Nunn took over the special victims unit at LMPD in 2012 and said there was a breakdown in how rape kits and evidence were handled, dating back to the 2003 county merger.

“Everybody had different tracking system and everyone had different ways that they logged their evidence," Nunn said.

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t surprised,” Tamara Reif, the Vice President of programs at the Center for Women and Families, said. “There's one in four that have been sexually assaulted in Kentucky.”

She said she hopes the audit will lead to faster testing and more rape convictions.

“This is nothing that was ever on the forefront for us to do and this has actually made us do it,” Nunn said.

Submitting the tests is only half of the problem. The state's audit showed state-run labs take up to eight months to process evidence.

“I think the victim is ready to close that chapter and move forward and we’re asking them to wait and wait and wait,” Nunn said.

A new grant for nearly $2 million should help labs speed up that time, according to representative for the state’s lab in Frankfort.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – A 43-year-old man was arrested on Sept. 28 after police said he tried to rob a business located in the 300 block of Kenwood Way on Sunday.

LMPD said Kenneth Graves entered the business and displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The victim pulled a gun and Graves apologized and fled without receiving any proceeds, according to the police report.

Graves was arrested and was even wearing the same clothing he had on during the robbery.

Its good for the criminals, who now know LMPD is much less lightly staffed during peak crimetime hours of before and after midnight, while also making LMPD an even more family unfriendly employer.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police officers are now working their new schedules.

Patrol officers just started working eight-hour shifts, with six on and two off. Most officers had worked 10-hour shifts, four days a week.

Police Chief Steve Conrad says the change will be good for the community, but many officers say they're not happy about it. Some think it will likely bring down department morale. Others say it takes away time they would normally spend with their families.

They must have just eliminated thier 4/10 plan as well.

They probably don't even count the shootings that happen on weekends any more, just so they can keep the numbers manageable.
