Nobody in my division thinks any less of the police. This may be big news in some places, but around here people know who he is talking to, namely the hugathugs and the criminals they love. Some people still take offense at the unfettered dope dealng, robbing and killing that some other people have become way too accepting of. They seem to be a lot more concerned with police than with people murdering the guy down the street.
