Police chief to shake up patrol officers' shifts

Working off duty should not be your primary concern. That is something extra you choose to do

The 12-hour shift never has you working 4 or 5 days in a row. You never work more than 3 in a row and mostly it's 2 in a row. Plus you get a three day weekend every other week. Officers on 12's in other cities report getting MORE sleep than on 8's so there goes your zombie theory.

Nobody gives a damn about your off duty jobs, and the department has more important things to worry about. Nobody forced you to work off duty. The department will never have a schedule that's more than 40 hours a week, or 80 hours in a pay period. 6 days in a row is not the same as 48 hours in a work week , because there is a workweek split between Saturday and Sunday. It's still just 40 hour in a single week.
