Police work is more similar to private sector work than it is different. You must have all shifts of operation. You earn a pension. You follow a policy. You wear a uniform. You earn a living in the same wage range as many private sector jobs. You go through a hiring process. You may be disciplined. You eventually retire. You face work politics.

You win this debate if you can list half the reasons I named where police work is so much different than private sector work. You are not the only one who worked in the private sector before you were appointed to the police department. No one is fooled.

"Let's see how your long "private sector" lasts on this job."

WTF does that even mean? Jeez...

Somewhere along the way, the people of this state quit giving a damn about officers. Most departments here have always offered low pay. The main benefit was being able to retire like you were in the military because you risk your life to do the job. Now they want to give police the same retirement as working a regular private sector job. People will have to make up their own minds about whether it's still worth it or not, but if you have a family, then it's probably not worth it anymore. This department has done much to make the situation worse. The department will get low quality platoons because nobody with a brain is going to stick around here working the street. All the spoiled house mouse OFFICE-rs who are off the street in a do-little job but trashing people for not being dedicated enough can kiss my ***.
