Police chief to shake up patrol officers' shifts

This isn't the highly desired job it used to be 20 years ago. The department will continue losing good people and hiring lazy or troubled people who get frequent complaints.

How is going to 8hrs good for officers? You would lose 52 days off a year, and if you have children in school...sometime you wouldn't see them for weeks, until your off days rotated to a weekend. Officers that live outside of county, and the new officers that now have to wait 3+ years for a take-home will be spending more gas money driving to work. Also, for children not in school, means 52 more times the officer's family will have to organize childcare. People would be using up more vacation days to compensate, that they would normally sell back, or save and use to take a nice vacation.
