Every sworn Louisville Metro Police Officer must complete at least 40 hours of certified advanced training annually upon graduating from Basic Training. In 2015, 24 hours of this advanced training requirement involves 16 hours of Honing Interpersonal Necessary Tactics (HINT) training and an eight (8) hour mandatory training which may include any of the following: relevant local, state and federal legal updates, annual updates on departmental use of force policies, state and departmental mandated re‐certification course and continued training with issued equipment. Officers can coordinate their remaining training hours (16 hours) with the career development program. Classes are divided into three (3) categories: patrol, investigations and management. Officers can choose from 46 different courses from these categories based on their current assignment and future career goals.
