Denver police union calls for chief's resignation after memorial desecrated during protest |
RE: Denver police union calls for chief's resignation after memorial...
"He may have known a lot of names, but every officer? Doubtful. That's 800+ names."
I'm not the OP, but believe it or not, I really think the guy DID remember every officer's name!
Hamilton hired me back in '91. I was not one to get have my name cross the Chief's desk (for discipline or any other reason), and didn't really see him all that much over the years.
Around 2007ish, I was at MetroSafe (Hamilton had been gone how long by that point...6 or 7 years?), and I ran into him. He greeted me using my first and last name, right off the cuff. Didn't look like he had to think about it at all.
Not that I was a Hamilton fanboy, but I always thought he did an OK job as Chief. As I said, my name wasn't one that would have crossed his desk for any reason, so for him to be able to immediately recall my full name on sight, after not seeing or talking to him for 7 years, is pretty amazing.
On the other hand, I saw White almost daily from the time he became Chief since I worked out of Major Crimes, and he would at least speak when passing (although never using my name). But when he spoke at my retirement gathering at HQ in 2011, I swear I think Buckner had to whisper my name in his ear right before the "congrats speech" so he could use my name in it!
