Denver police union calls for chief's resignation after memorial desecrated during protest

People form their leadership style while they're Sgt's and Lt's. They learn it largely by learning from those above them. The leadership started deteriorating as Abramson and Armstrong took more direct control of the department by politicizing the Captain positions and turning them into Majors. Before that, you could not appoint an untested Lt to a Command Staff position because they played the political game correctly. They had to be a Captain first. The other thing they did is make the Chiefs salary so high relative to similar size departments that they are a lot more willing to do as desired by city hall. LMPD is a good example of how to inject politics into policing to drive down morale and drive up criime. This is one of the few cities in America where violent crime is up, not down.
