The equipment allowance is considered income and is taxed as such. The "Equipment Allowance" title is nothing more than just a name of the check. There was an officer that sued the city when he was forced to retire and proved it in court and it is now considered a precedent. Hopefully none of us will be forced to follow suit and have to use that.
