"" Great post. Being Metro myself, I am sick of the apparent and arrogant Metro mindset at other agencies and even some of our own divisions. We may be the biggest in the state, but we are a laughingstock outside of our agency. It is embarrassing to have other agencies ask what is going on with you guys. If you think J-town and some of the other small agencies are incompetent, I bet if they hired you, you would go there and take that much larger salary wouldn't you. And you could take your s .. ""

Two factual posts. The vast majority of LMPD officers are hard working and dedicated to the citizens of Louisville. They deserve the best leadership possible and the respect and caring of their leadership. The poster who called Chief Sanders a hack, really? You have no idea of his accomplishments, in fact I bet you don't even know the man or you would not be so quick to disrespect him. I sure hope you are not a police officer because if you are then you are part of what is wrong with policing today, and no I'm not a cop or agent.

They were only offering recruits about $6000 more than LMPD. The starting salaries have been pretty stagnant for years. With 20 year retirements gone, none of the salaries being offered around here would get me to become a police officer in 2015.

A lot of people still want to work for a police agency in their own community. A large number of J-town officers reside in and around J-town, and want to protect and serve their own community. Why would any officer want to work in a part of town (west end) where they probably have zero community ties, and the ungrateful residents there would just prefer to never see the police in their neighborhood. Not to mention, agencies like Jeffersontown and St. Matthews pay higher salaries and still have good benefits. Sort of a win/win situation.
