Just hypothetically let's assume there actually is a god who gives a toss about us, and that same god observes us committing violent acts upon one another, or even worse (think genocide, and etc.). There's also famine and other ghastly things. Why would a "loving god" refuse to intervene? If I had a fishbowl with goldfish that were trying to kill each other, I would try to stop them immediately. And those are just stupid fish, not even people.
