I have never seen a story about courts being too lenient on defendants and those defendants getting back on the street to commit crimes again. It happens all the time but the public either doesn't know or doesn't care. Stories like this give the false impression the courts are tough on defendants. Anyone who believes that should show up in court and listen in on the plea bargaining discussions that happen every day.
