This isn't a "good post" at all. If you all really believe that there is no racial bias in within LMPD, then you are either blind, don't want to know about it or you just don't care.

First of all, I am within the Dept. Tell me why there are more Caucasian females on this department then African Americans all together? Tell me why in every recruit class there are no more than 3 African Americans in them? Don't give me the story that "they" are not qualified enough, or are not applying because I know for a fact there are well educated, experience African Americans with NO criminal records or BAD Credit whatsoever that have been turned down. Also, I know for a fact that there was a Caucasian male hired in the last class who got a DUI last year and was hired over other qualified African Americans.

Secondly, look at your special units. Why are there no more than 1 or 2 or even ZERO African Americans in those units? For example, the Homicide unit has no more than 2 African Americans. Over 4 in that unit are Caucasian females. Your narcotics unit, what a shame! You have over 50 detectives in it and only 2 are African Americans and they are in the Prescription Unit.

Thirdly, why are more African Americans terminated over the Caucasians? There has been Caucasian officers that have violated the policy, even broke the law and yet they still hold a position there. However, you have African American officers who have been terminated for something less serious. To give you a "hint", what about the officer who had sex with the drunk college student while on duty, and kept his job? Compare that to the officer who who rented a house to his mother and lost his job. What about the officer who was speeding at 90 mph and killed someone in a 45 zone and kept his position and job and compare that to the officer who was terminated for "untruthfulness". Test question: which of the above mentioned "officers" were Caucasian and which were African American?

How can you, FOP president, speak of what the African American community thinks or feels when you are not African American? Believe me, coming from a strong African American family, you have it all wrong. The African American community does not trust the police, and we, the brothers in blue, have given them reason not to. The police has been used throughout history as the enforcers of oppression. Please do not speak for the African American Community. You know nothing about us and really don't care to know. It's easy for a privileged person to say everything is "ok". You sound like those abusers who believe they never abuse.

If you really care about the African American community, prove yourself. Work with the department to actually go out and do an honest recruitment for African Americans and Hispanics to help bridge the gap between the police and the African American and Hispanic community.
