Pretty much agree with you on that. I retired out of Criminal Division.

Outside of the larger cities, practically the whole state does it that way because budgets and staffing don't allow for months and months of field training. Having served on both kinds of departments, I saw more danger coming from the "old hands" who forgot basic officer safety somewhere along the way, or tough guy cowboys who thought they were superman. When those guys are actually doing the training it becomes a bad situation and I have seen that first hand a few times. Most of the other info is what form to fill out or what charges to use or other non-life threatening situations. The academies now do a decent job with the safety and tactical side, at least enough to let you start building those skills. Nobody is getting sued over training in Kentucky because the state gives you the minimum amount to avoid getting sued for that. Anyone who has served in combat arms or as an MP in the military, or who laterals in from a department that had a long field training period, does not need several months of field training for the purposes of officer safety.

If you would have done your job

If you didn't spend your whole shift run jumping LMPD runs and doing your sheriff duties, you would not have been transferred out of the EPO/Warrants Unit.
