You simply have unrealistic expectations to assume that you and one drug dog are going to find thousands upon thousands of dollars stashed in vehicles that are stopped on a routine basis in the municipality of West Buechel. Most of the "nasty apartments and hotels" to which you refer are not within West Buechel city limits, they are in the 6th division. I wish you the best of luck on your quest to obtain a K-9 unit but you are in for a huge surprise as far as the expense to the taxpayers and the amount of drug money that you will find. Those kind of stops just don't happen on a routine basis. You are going to spend most of your time scraping up "stems & seeds" from the floor mats and then you'd have to lie on an arrest slip to even take the change from the ashtray. In order to justify the seizure of ANY funds, you'll first have to articulate the suspect's intent to traffic and then, most of the time, a judge will still refuse to order the surrender of the funds and give them right back to the defendant when it's all over. And that statement of fact is coming from a very active and experienced dual purpose dog handler. Not someone who spends his time at the coffee bar at Thornton's.
