It would just be absorbed by the 6th Division, as has already happened in the past and before that, it was absorbed by Baker District at various times. Regardless of its outcome, it will always fall under the jurisdiction of Louisville Metro (Jefferson County).

Only a city council can disband a city department. I just looked at KRS and saw nothing about a department being disbanded if the Chief resigns without a replacement, and nothing about a city council having to approve a Mayor's appointed Chief. It sounds like a bunch of hot air from both sides.

All it takes is one signature in Richmond to strip the agency of its existence - and then notify the City Attorney that any arrests made from that point forward will be invalid.
